Cold Idel Solenoids

OK
Ignore the note on the pic...it was from a previous post

I want to remove the cold idle solenoids all together
So....

A: Remove both and secure wires so as they do not touch anything metal or otherwise...correct?
B: Do I or Do I NOT plug the 2 plastic tubes that also connect the CIS's that are directly under the throttle body opening?

Thanks

Yes Clayton, cap each tube individually and put a little silicone on each tube before sliding the caps on. Tape the ends of the wires up good.

If all you want to do is make them stop working to quite down the bike than just unplug one wire from each and tape it up. Leave the CIS in place and they will not leak any vacuum.

Clayton...what do you want me to say....we have the best weather on the planet! It's getting close to the end of the ridin season on the mainland so I have to be careful about bragging about Hawaii's weather. Some of the SnowMads get a little touchy.

Come on out if ya ever get the urge...

Those tubes under the throttle openings are steel and you can just silicon vacuum caps on them and you will be fine.

Does this really make the motor quieter? Thinking about doing it. I'm assuming you would just have to use the "pseudo-choke" know a little more.

WOW....I couldn't believe the noise those little guys made....
Prior to the removal I was cleaning out the throttle body and it almost sounded
like I had a rod knocking while the side cover was off....when I removed them I could
actually hear the motor... :)
For the most part it was a night and day difference.
Cheers

Take the dog dish off the right side and start the bike. You won't believe the clattering those little devils make. Clackety clackety clackety. Then disconnect one of the wires from each solenoid and see how much quieter it is. Then remove them, cap the tubes, and never look back.

Are there any other benefits from removing these other noise reduction?

There are a lot of Nomad owners that confuse the noises of the solenoids cycling along with the noise they make via the intake of air thru their tiny ports to be the spark knock/ping/pre ignition noise that we try so hard to describe.

I am not try to poke fun at anyone, it is just a mistake a lot of folks make. A couple of my friends (who can find their way around a motorcycle with a wrench in their hand pretty well) have made it! It really is amazing how much noise the set up makes.

If the is anyone out there that has put a FI controller on their bike and still not been able to get rid of their "ping" I really recommend that you do as some one suggested. Pull your right hand dog bowl off, disconnect and tape off one wire from each solenoid and put the cover back on. Ride you bike a couple weeks that way and see if most of your noise goes away. It it does (and for a lot of you it will) then do the mod permanently!

ok, i see the two wires bottom right of pic...diconnect one (each side) and isolate real good....got it.

Do you then just pull the rubber hose off the solenid and cap? or do you remove the tube at/near the throttle body opening? or do you remove the hose9s) completely and cap of at solenoid and throttle body?

You don't do anything other than removing and tying up the wire. Unless your going to put an open K&N filter on the right side you can leave everything were it is....
