Cleaning windshield....what a pain

Well I have been intending to take my "inner" windshield apart for many months to clean it....I finally did it. Not only was it a pain to put back together but it really did not look much cleaner because of all the scratches from just the few times I have slid it up/down.

I suspect I will be buying a new windshield/fairing before I take the stock setup apart again.

It was nice to get access to the triple tree area to clean up the areas I couldn't reach but that only requires removing the entire windshield...which is pretty simple (4 bolts).

If anyone that hasn't removed the inner shield before I recommend you take some good notes/pics on how the brackets went together before dissassembling.

OK the truth is it didn't take that long...I am just whining because I didn't take very good note of the brackets before hand and all the effort didn't show in the results. I had to print out the parts diagram off MawKaw's website to figure out reassembly.

I usually end up taking mine apart about once a year to do a good cleaning.

It helps to have a second person there to help re-assemble everything.

Cleaning windshield....what a pain

When I had my stock shield on, the first time I cleaned the bike, I removed the inner shield. I ran with the shield all the way down, and didn't need it. Had no more problems with cleaning it....

I saw a fellow that had used the window tint that comes as a spray to tint the inner and the outer a charcoal. Looked pretty good and he said his was all scratched up before he did it so it covered up the scratches.

I took the inner shield off as did not need it with the windshield all the way down and it was a PIA to keep clean. One thing that was an issue was the stock Chrome fasteners. Several of them galled up and I had to cut off the heads to get them out. Replaced all of them with SS screws and acorn nuts.

This may not be a bad idea to "hide" the scratches. If I ever do take the inner shield off again I may just do that. Thanks for the idea.
