Sounds great Trip.....

We'll start a "Western Region Rally" thread where westerners can suggest & discuss options!

Then our trusty co-leader can prepare a Poll !

This might be a nice central location! Coronado... rode out there today!!!

Message from Wolf:

I noticed you are our ralley leader. Just an idea incase you wanted to do it outside of california. Mesquite, NV would be fun and Casa Blanca has a nice pool and buffet.

Thanks Wolf..... let's hear what our compadres think!!

Is that near Vegas at all?

Yes Nico I know you crashed your Nomad first!!! OK? I said it!

Ok.. Blown Dodge ...... now that you've had your little outburst of an attempt at nonsensical levity........ let's get down to task.. eh????

09-09-2007, 11:02 PM
How many members do we have in each Western Region state?

09-10-2007, 08:05 AM
Depending on how adventurous the californians wanted to get, we could do it at Zion NP in southern Utah. Mesquite, NV is on I-15 about an hour or so NE of Vegas. I don't really care where it is. I am going to make every reasonable effort to attend. If I have to trailer the bike and bring the family I'm prepared to do so. Or maybe I'll just cram these two in the saddlebags http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

Hey, if there is anyway for me to make it...I will. When I first got this bike and road it about 800 miles one weekend I told my wife that it would see the Pacific one day with me.

Be careful Wolfman, that's how Nico and Ponch started!!!

Italians are very affectionate!

So... what's the count? How many will be voting??? Other than The Wolf's suggestions....... ??

Count me in. As to suggestions about where to meet, that is a tough one. When you look at the map logic seems to point toward northern Nevada. Maybe Elko? Trashy little gambling town. We should be right at home.

p.s. One suggestion: Since your Grand Ultimate Former "God" Leader of all that is good & evil is recovering from smashed ribs, how about we make this first rally a little closer to So. Cal...... ??

If you take into account our fiesty Canadian friends then Boise might be a good choice. I would recommend mid to late June. Long days and great weather.

There's a vote for Boise...... BD.... track this stuff if you would my trusty co-whatever!

Boise is cool. The southern cals can come stay at my house and we'll ride up together (6 hours or so). If we did Mesquite, NV we could all ride up the virgin river gorge (through AZ) to St. George, Utah and back to mesquite (about 80 miles round trip) Or we could plan our rally around another Rally ( they do a mini Street vibrations in Sparks, NV in June) Laughlin is in April.

09-12-2007, 04:09 AM
Accually any place for a gathering is great with me. The farther the better. Cheers from your Canadian Connection.... I was in San Diego once (Nico) with the Canadian Navy nice City.

Kick butt?????? Easy there compadre, I think you might be out-gunned these days. Texas wasn't part of the US of A when that little scuffle took place, but we can sure understand your natural desire for independence. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

How about meet at Casa Blanca on Thursday evening June 19 2008, check in - hang out at the pool. Friday Morning ( my birthday) ride up to Zion National Park, tour park, ride back to Mesquite (200 miles round trip) hang out at pool/casino. Check out Saturday morning return home.

Good way for the Californians to knock out 4 states in 2-3 days! http://www.nps.gov/zion/

Umm........I just checked with The War Department and was informed that we will be going here anyway as a family and she will be driving the car and I can ride my bike. So everyone is invited to attend our family vacation and if it so happens that others show up I will be allowed to go for a ride while she hangs out at the pool with the kiddies.

Region Leaders, when information is available for your 2008 rally, email it to me at danceswithnomads@kawanow.org or post it here on the forum and let me know so I can post it on the website.

Thanks,
Trip

lets try to make a decision before december when I have to put in my vacation time for 2008 (please)

If we do SLC I can plan the ride. There are plenty of canyons and scenic areas although the scenery is completely different than sounthern Utah. Just tell me how far you want to go I'm guessing a good day ride like a ride up to Evanston, Wyoming on Mirror Lake Highway (the road goes over 10,000 ft above sea level) or maybe just some good old back country canyon carving like the Alpine Loop (go up American Fork canyon come down Provo canyon). A ride up Logan canyon to Bear Lake is a good ride too. So is a ride up to Morgan on I-80 and come down East Canyon. Unfortunatley, there are way more roads than we have time for. A lot of the good motorcycle roads in Utah close during winter and don't open up until after Memorial Day.

09-20-2007, 02:05 PM
We need to plan ahead too....does late June early July sound good? Speak up all you westerners!!!!!

09-20-2007, 02:08 PM
both yes

we could even squeeze in a motab choir concert for BD

09-20-2007, 02:10 PM
speak now or forever hold your peace

09-20-2007, 02:21 PM
lol....went to their website...concerts are only shown thru Dec of this year!!!

they sure are ALOT cheaper then Van Halen....$15 compaired to $150!!!

(my poor 15 yr old son wants to go in late Nov...He goes nuts that I know all their stuff...tries to find songs I can't "sing" to!!)

Thanx wolfie! Gonna go rest my still aching like h*ll ribs in the recliner!! 'talk' later!

09-20-2007, 05:41 PM
Yeah I was thinking the same thing. ;) Like maybe have it in Baker City Oregon or some place like that. It's close to WA,OR, ID, Western Montana, North CA/NV, All with in 600 miles of that spot. I know seattle is like 400 miles. Portland is like 160+ I think. Boise is not far either another 170 +. So it's pretty close for all. What do you think Idaho?? NW meet n greet?

"Hey, VC, Nico seems to be asleep at the wheel, or handlebars. Maybe we could plan a NW region rally. That way he could limp to some place close to LA and we could enjoy the scenery here in the NW. Lots of great roads to tour on."

09-20-2007, 06:08 PM
I can hit baker in a day. small town though not much to do. Nice little cafe there called the oregon trail motel & resteraunt. Cheap too and free breakfast if you get a room.

09-20-2007, 06:11 PM
I hear ya. It's not very big. Does have some great riding up the hells canyone scenice byway. I was trying to find some place in the middle for all of us. Just a thought I'm open to anything.

A few months ago I read an article in some mag (I think it was american rider) about a sweet ride called rattlesnake pass. The pics were awesome. I think the road came out of enterprise oregon?

NW Meet, now you're talkin. I actually got to ride in the area that you are talking about just this week. Beautiful country. I rode across the Blue Mountains to Wallowa, Lostine and Joseph (Named for Chief Joseph) to Wallowa Lake. I believe that road continues on past Wallowa Lake into Hells Canyon. Great roads, smooth pavement. Have some pic on my cell phone cameras but will need to transfer them tomorrow. I can get to that area from Pocatello in about 7 hours.

You obviously won't get any complaints from me if its in utah. Its a long haul in one day from cal. It was 711 miles from where I lived in SLC to my barracks on Camp Pendleton. A mid-week rally would work too - might be more enjoyable to split the ride up and back into 2 days.

Thanks kawgirl that was it.

We just rode to enterprise about a month ago. Man the riding up there is awesome. Oregon has a some good places to stay even if the town we stay in is small who cares. Just so long there is good riding locally where we go for this. I say in OR/WA or ID. but if you all decide on UTah thats cool too.

My vote is southern Utah (Bryce, Zion, etc.), or Oregon......or BOTH!!! Haven't been to either yet, and have wanted to for a long time. Hmmm......decisions, decisions........

Like I said earlier: The wife wants to go down to Mesquite for my birthday anyone is invited. Just let me know in advance if you're comming and I'll trailer my bike down and we can tour through Zion. Otherwise I'll just drive the car with the wife and kids.

OK... at least there is some dialogue going on... we can do without beer or Vodka to enjoy Utah... If we leave So.Cal...... head up through Vegas to Salt Lake.... then through Idaho to Oregon, and back down Cali. coast... I could definatly live with it...... can't afford it.... but could defintaley live with it!!

Well just a warning - the ride between SLC and Baker City, Oregon is extremely boring. To enjoy Utah you need to ride east of I-15. Now the road between boise, ID and Lewiston, ID, thats some good riding! I got out today for a quick putt 50 miles or so boy was it great!

09-22-2007, 04:49 PM
Yeah the wife and I went up to the local dealer since they were giving shiitt away and serving food. We ended up some how doing a 150 miles and now where home. Was supposed to be a quick ride up and back but seen some new roads next thing we knew it were almost 65 miles from home so we thought best to head back LOL.

Wolfman is correct about there being some awesome roads with great scenery and perfect pavement around Boise. The kind of roads that a passenger can enjoy the view and the driver can enjoy the fun of rolling on the throttle with the bike laid over on its side. North from Boise through Horseshoe Bend and on to McCall and New Meadows, or northeast to Idaho City and into the Stanley Basin and the Sawtooth Mountains. Lots of great camping in that part of the country. It would be fun to pack small tents and sleeping bags and do a camping rally. Could even do that in the Uinta Mountians of Utah. Never been there but the pictures I've seen are beautiful. Capital Reef State Park in Southern Utah would be another great choice. Have friends who have tried to get me to go there for years. The creative juices are flowing now..........

So will this be around the same time as the Laughlin River Run? If so, plan on spending a lot of money for motel rooms. I cannot remember but I think the week before the River Run is an old car show. May want to check the Laughlin events and see when would be a good time. Just a day trip for me from Vegas.

11-04-2007, 08:47 AM
We have a friend that is in charge of advertising and also one of the main writers for "Quick Throttle" magazine... (it's Full Throttle back east).. the one that you can pick up at all the dealers and shops (not in Texas) I know she covers the Laughlin run every year..... will ask her if she has any connections on rooms and things....

btw.... was going to ask Trip if it's ok if she does a write-up on KawaNOW! I know if we do do our get-together there she'll cover it for the mag.

11-04-2007, 10:19 AM
I think I posted this before possibly in the laughlin thread but they do want over two hundred dollars per night minimum of a three night reservation. I'm planning on making reservations in searchlight at el ray's motel they won't take reservations until january. They are alot cheaper and only require a two night stay. We are planning on riding down thursday to searchlight hang out friday in laughlin and ride back Saturday. I cleared it through grandma and grandpa and they are going to watch the boys. Should be a nice get away for the wife and I. We are also planning on going down to mesquite, NV around june 20 for a weekend get-a-way.

11-04-2007, 07:39 PM
Say Wolfman, instead of staying in a dumpy motel in a wide spot of the road called Searchlight, why not find a nice hotel to stay in at Vegas? From my house in NW Vegas to Laughlin is a meager 110 miles and I get there in less then 2 hours. I made two runs down last spring and it was very enjoyable. If you have never been to the River Run, you may get tired of seeing the same things over and over and did I say, over again.

As a suggestion, why not make the starting point for the Western Rally in Vegas. The rooms will be much cheaper. Then maybe Idaho can come down. With him living on such a meager budget. With the price of the rooms in Laughlin during River Run for 3 nights with the poker run and other small event passes, the rate was about $450.00. But went up the closer the event got. That does not include the concert ticktes.

Just my two cents.

11-04-2007, 07:47 PM
good idea I'll talk to the wife about it. If idaho comes we can get a room with three beds and split the room three ways. I have a friend from work that wants to come too.

I also have a friend in SLC that rides an 06 Nomad. He bought his after I let him ride mine around the block. Well, an hour later he came back. Anyway, he has been wanting to make it down for the River Run. Maybe by that time next year, there could be a small group of Nomad riders heading South on I-15. I may even ride up to St. George or Cedar City to meet up with the group.

Here is the info for the upcoming Western Region Rally: The Rally will be held at Casa Blanca Resort and Casino in Mesquite, Nevada, off of I-15 exit 120 on the SE side of I-15. We have 15 rooms blocked for the night of June 19 and June 20. Rooms will be 49.98 + 9% tax for Thursday night and 74.98 + 9% tax for Friday night. Each room has two queen beds and can accommodate 1-4 people so if you are interested in doubling up with someone to save money you are more than welcome to do so. The block release date is May 19th. Any rooms not reserved by then will automatically go back to the hotel. To book a room you will need this master confirmation number: KawaNOW group # 18929. This will let the reservation desk know that you are part of KawaNOW so you will get the group rate. You will book your room on your own credit card and will also be given a personal confirmation number. To make reservations call: 1-877-438-2929. Come join us for a great time, to meet new friends and relax. We will meet Thursday evening and hangout and get acquainted. Friday we will ride from Mesquite, through Zion National Park in southern Utah and back to mesquite (about 200 miles round trip.) We will check out on Saturday and return home. Bring a swim suit, they have a nice pool. There is also a buffet and café at the hotel. Check in will be June 19 at 4:00 pm and check out will be June 21 by 11:00 am. Any individual rooms cancelled within 21days of arrival will result in forfeiture of 1st nights room rate and tax. If you would like a complete copy of the contract or have any questions whatsoever please email me at wolfman@kawanow.org

This was the response I got from Casa Blanca:

You can park your motorcyles in the open parking lot at Casablanca, or there is a covered and security-patrolled parking garage just north of the hotel and across the street where you are welcome to park your bikes.

The room numbers are assigned by the Front Desk close to the arrival date of your group; if you have preferences, please let me know and I will do my best to try to accommodate them--no guarantees but I will try!

Be ready for the heat. It will be close to 110 by that time of the year.

In Phoenix, people don't say it's hot outside until it goes above 110. When we first moved here, a native would ask "how do you like Phoenix". If it's under 110 and you say "it's hot", they laugh at you. Even the weather people on TV don't say it's hot under 110.

11-24-2007, 03:55 PM
It's cool here!

Call me optimistic but I'm hoping for mid 80's http://www.ask.com/weather/c?q=weather+in+Mesquite%2C+NV&wdtl=s&wshdop=1&wreg=1&wcwid=23037&wsw=1&qsrc=8&o=0&l=dir

Zion should definitly be cooler but still warm http://www.ask.com/weather/c?q=weather+i....rc=8&o=0&l=dir (http://www.ask.com/weather/c?q=weather+in+Springdale%2C+UT&wdtl=s&wshdop=1&wreg=1&wcwid=31551&wsw=1&qsrc=8&o=0&l=dir)

I remember one summer I was on assignment in Vermont. A local radio station was having a give away. When the temp hit....can't remember seems like upper 80's and that temp was announced on the the radio the 1st caller would win a window air conditioner. They were giving away 5 units. Didn't give away the air conditioners that summer.....in fact it was their 3rd rainiest summer on record. .....so they would probably really be hot in Arizona.....but Arizonians would freeze their arsh off in VT in the winter and the Vermonters would say 'it's not cold'. LOL

Angel's Landing Zions
Above left is trail leading up 1,500 ft. to the top..
Below is two views from near the top of the landing

This is a killer of a climb with narrow trails. Shear cliffs on either side with safety chains to hold onto in some precarious places

12-01-2007, 12:11 PM
Wow! That looks like a lot of fun.
