So I got my fender in a couple of days ago and it's in absolutely perfect condition except for a small dent on top (See the pic below)! at $180 it was a hell of a deal considering brand new the fender is $550 painted to match my bike! What's the best way to get this dent out myself without having to go to a body shop?

It's going to depend on how sharp the edge of the dent is, but I have heard that placing dry ice on a dent may cause enough contraction of the metal to pop the dent out.

If that doesn't work lay it dent down on a folded towel and beat on it with a hard rubber hammer.

The dent extends on RH side of the fender into the formed transition of the curved top to the flat side of the fender. That is going to be a bitch to get out!. I would put your passenger seat on it and pretend the dent isn't there. Else you need to fill the dent and repaint the fender.

I forgot about this. I may give it a try. Certainly won't hurt anything!

If dry Ice doesn't work, I can try this.

Being under the seat no one about the dent but me but I'll still know it's there and I figured it might be easy enough to try and fix so why not? Insurance is paying me $2,960.16 and this fender cost me $480 so not a bad deal although I did look better at the left saddlebag yesterday and there is some scratching on the outside of the door that's quite noticeable. I'm gonna try polishing it out before I think about replacing it.

Take it to a PDR place (paintless dent removal) they should be able to get it back to perfect without needing to repaint unless the paint is cracked.

How much did you pay for the fender? In your first post, you said $180. Later you said $480. If it was $480, you should have bought a new one. If $180, then the savings may be worth the trouble.

I assume he made a typo. The 4 is right above the 1 on the keyboard.
The numbers on the right not the numbers across the top.
Do you want me to send you a picture.:ohno:

The point is, it could be either. He could have been off either way. The difference is $300.

Lay the fender on soft carpet , put a softball on the inside of fender
and tap with a rubber mallet progressively harder until you start seeing results. Don't get in a hurry! If you have a heat gun, heati from the
inside, not too hot.
Good luck

Is it really under your seat? If so, just leave it. Beating it with a mallet, etc could crack the paint, causing it to spread to other parts of the fender.

Yes, the 4 was a typo. I paid $180 and that included shipping. So I made $2780 off the hit. The only thing the fender didn't have was the turn signals, but mine are just fine so I'll transfer them.

That might not be a bad idea! I couldn't cost that much to remove it.

That's my only concern is will the paint chip. That could be really bad.

My first thought was the paintless dent repair guys. We have a few around here that do it.

I certainly agree with Jared. If it IS covered by the seat
I wouldn't mess with it.

Covered by the seat or not, I still understand wanting it fixed. I have a very small dent right at the rear (drivers) seat mounting point. Nobody will ever see it even solo but it still bugs me. I'll fix it only because it bugs me.

I'm going to try the dry ice thing this summer. If that doesn't work, I'll beat it out next winter when the fender comes off for paint.
