Crazy idea

Most of you who have read my posts realize by now that I'm "frugal". So here's what I'm thinking. I've solo'ed out my scoot therefore I don't need the rear floorboards. I would however like some new highway pegs. I'd like to have a few unique touches on my bike so.....is there any way of adapting the rear floorboards to mount them to the crash bars? Is there any reason why I'd need to keep the rear floorboards on the bike? Do the bolts hold something else together?

Any thoughts would be appreciated before I spend hours researching things that won't work anyway. (Or maybe there's a commercially available bracket just for this.)

You can remove the passenger floorboards without worry. And there is no reason you can't use them up front. Don't get rid of them. Never heard of anyone wanting to do what you are thinking of doing, so whether there is a ready made bracket available, I'm not sure.

No problem removing them at all, but I think it will look pretty dorky mounted on the front crashbars, not to say that its not a practical idea. But thats even too frugal for me to contemplate doing.

As I recall, the passenger floorboards can be removed, but the bolts need to be reinstalled.

It isn't something i'd ever consider, but I'd like to see what you come up with for using them as highway pegs. Obviously mounting them to the crash bars will be the biggest issue. They need to be mounted very securely with a 3-piece clamp or hinged ( kuryakyn style) clamp.

Kury longhorn highway pegs are the way to go.
Frugal or not, just save up for them.

I have the rear floorboards removed from my bike. There is no harm in doing that, and no reason for reinstalling the bolts. After they are removed there will be two small holes on either side of your bike and that is it.

Now, mounting 13" boards to you engine guards would be ugly. If you are trying to be cheap, I have some passenger folding pegs that I removed from my old Vulcan 900. They are all yours for $20 shipped.

The Kuryakyn Longhorn Offset Dually Highway Pegs (they gotta come up with a shorter name) were my first choice but I figured if I don't need the passenger boards, I might as well use them for something else.

I've got some cheapo O ring highway pegs now. They work ok but I want more real estate for my feet. I wouldn't use the OEM mounting brackets for the boards. That would look decidedly odd.

Frugal is great but sometimes you just have to bite the bullet. :tup:

There is a very good reason to put the bolts back in. The bracket will move/give without them being in. I learned that the hard way.

I had removed my passenger boards and left the bolts out. I attached some straps to the bar and it moved the whole bracket. I went to ACE and picked up some shorter bolts to put back in the bracket.

Good idea to put some type bolt back in as the holes will fill up with gook and might even rust. Then it would be difficult to put bolts back in if you ever wanted to mount some pegs or floorboards there again.

sorry but i just can't picture those rear floor boards mounted to the crash bars as anything other then plain odd looking.

Seriously... frugal is one thing; but floorboards for highway pegs?!!!:wtf:

That's going to look strange without a doubt.

I believe I would reconsider that idea before you put another minute of time into the project. Besides, by the time you rig something up to mount them you might as well have bought a less-expensive set of highway-pegs.
