I'll keep it short and sweet. Reached 1001 miles on my Dunlop SP5000 195-60 16 and I will never switch back to a MC tire, ever! Nuff said!

I think youll get a few more miles out of it yet. Im curious to see how many miles you guys will have on them before you start replacing them.

I'm at about 1,500 miles on mine and it keeps getting better. I feel the same about the MC tire.

I put 11K miles on my Dunlup sp 5000 and it's still looking great. I expect 25K+ miles out of it.
I also have 11K miles out of my Metzeler rear tire on the front. It also looks great and I expect equal amount of miles out of it if not more.
Did 1034 miles on my CT this past Saturday. I was on an Iron Butt Saddle Sore 1000. This tire is perfect, especially in the rain.

This may seem like a dumb question to you guys, but it isn't to me. Has anyone ever run a CT on the front? Just wondering how that would work out.

ok.........dumb question from a new member.........
the car tire on the rear i love the idea and have already looked at the prices and where to get it....but the front tire.......
have stockish bias ply on both ends, when you go to the radial on the rear must you have radial on the front? and along with that what do youall run for a front tire?
02 mostly stock, has pipes and a programer to match (was on bike when i bought it just over a month ago) but drive it like the old man i am......
thanks

Welcome aboard allangoff. You have stumbled across a great bunch of people, glad to have you aboard.
Running 37 psi lonewolf. I think that is my sweet spot as she just glides down the road like an ocean liner in calm waters.
As you will find as you read through the DarkSide threads here allan , that no one will recommend a car tire on the rear, as do I. Putting a car tire on the rear of your bike requires a lot of research to determine if it is right for you.
As for car tire on the front, I would strongly recommend against it. The math for a car tire on the front is just not supported. To be honest, I don't think there is any information available anywhere to make an informed decision on making the switch to a car tire on the front. Plus, I don't think the geometry of the car tire will allow it to work effectively while cornering as the front tire works completely different from the rear. In my humble opinion that is.

I've been running it at 36 PSI.

If you look at old or should I say vintage motorcycles they have squared off tires on the front like car tires.
I mean late 40's, early 50's bikes. If they ran then, why not now?
I asked this question awhile back and think someone said there are guys doing car tires on front and back.

I don't think any would put a car tire on the front. At least I've never heard of it.
To anyone that is interested, I would recommend reading as much info as you can. Here's a few of the more common sites.

I would agree you need to research the ct before making the move. I did for several months and am very glad i changed. I have 800 miles on mine and im running 35 psi

OK, why would we have to research it? You guys have already done that. All we would have to do is run the same tire you guys run at the same pressure and we are good to go Right?

There was a thread a while back about somebody somewhere running CT on the front. I agree with TC why research if your going anyway to do it. people before you have paved the way. Unless your just trying to convince yourself that its OK.

TC, if you plan on using a Dunlop SP 5000 in 195/60 R16, you'd be wise to order it now. I've heard that Dunlop has discontinued the SP 5000 in that size. It will be a while but my next will probably be a General Altimax in 205/60 R16, a Good Year Assurance TT in 205, or a Dunlop SP 5000 in 205 if they have discontinued the 195. I've read very good reviews on the Good Year and General Altimax. The only downfall of the GY is it is several pounds heavier than the other two. I don't see where that would be a big deal but some feel it is important enough to mention it. I am very happy with the SP 5000 and would go the same route if I can still get it about 20,000 miles down the road. I've settled at 34 psi in the tire and it rides and handles like a dream. Many on the darkside forum have mounted the 205 on their Nomads with no rubbing issues. It doesn't clear the shaft tube by much but again, I haven't heard or read anything about one rubbing the tube.

Hmm! must have to much junk in my trunk! ran it at 36 psi out to sturgis and back, fully loaded and pulling a trailer. i now hav wear in the center. dropped it down to 31 psi but not really liken the mushy ride.

The tire is going to wear---hopefully just not as fast.

I think what you might be thinking of and what a lot of people are doing is running a 150/80-16 rear motorcycle tire on the front rim instead of a 150/80-16 front motorcycle tire.
I guess it is possible, but I've never heard of anyone trying to run a car tire on the front rim.
