Some think I am nuts, but I love riding in the rain. I get my suit on, pull that hood in tight, crank up the tunes and do the old singing in the rain. Anyone else enjoy a good rain ride??
I did one last summer, not by choice but ended up in a downpour and as it subsided, I actually saw grazing on the side of the road but a 12 point buck about 20 feet from the road. I have to tell you, I squeezed some cheeks that day (sorry for the mental picture there). Anyhow, just thinking out loud.

I don't hate riding in the rain. Here in Colorado summers, if you don't ride in the rain, you don't ride, as afternoon thunderstorms are pretty common.
What I do hate about it, is cleaning and polishing all that chrome AFTER riding in the rain. http://s2.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif

I love to ride but not in the rain. First there is the danger factor. Just never feel as comfortable with wet roads. People in cars are invinsible and speed up when it rains not realizing they can't stop nearly as fast as they think. I remember trying to pass 18 wheelers on interstates during rain or with them just being wet. I just don't enjoy not being able to see when I ride. Then there is the dirty cycle part. You would think with all that water they would get clean but no, just dirty.

I don't mind riding in the rain, but that doesn't mean I'll go riding looking for a storm.

Ive done my share of it, especially this summer. Id rather avoid it if I could because of the safety factor with cars around and cleaning afterwards.

Washing? We don't need no stinking washing!
Except for downpours which cause standing water, rain is not a bother unless I've forgotten my rain gear.
I was even surprised to hear my wife answer a question about our recent 2-wheeled vacation. When asked about rain--seems to be a standard question--she said that it really doesn't make a difference.
I DO sit out thunderstorms.

I like riding in the rain if it's not a major thunder storm. Julie and I rode through the mountains around Eureka Springs in the rain, and it is still one of our best rides. We got caught in a thunder storm in Oklahoma that was one of the worst rides, so it all depends on the circumstances.

Don't you all hate riding on a trip and you're in the mountains and you think it might rain. Don't want to put the rain suit on. Figure you're safe without the raingear and then those dark clouds come over the mountains that you didn't see coming, you're surrounded, and all of a sudden it's too late and you're wet and struggling to put rain gear on as quickly as possible.
Given a choice, I prefer riding in dry weather, but the face shield and rain gear make riding in the rain not a big problem - and on road trips you just have thosse rainy days on which you have to ride. Other than my bad allergic reaction to lightning, no problems...

This very thing happened to the wife and I while riding our bikes through the north Georgia hills a while back. It kinda snuck up on us real fast and what a downpour it was. And what made it worse, there was no place to pull over to put our rainsuits on for a little while. Finally spotted someone's driveway that had a big tree over it and pulled in under the tree. By then, we were pretty wet, put on the raingear and headed out again. About 5 miles down the road, it was clear as a bell again! We sort of blew-dried from there on! :)

Fortunately for Scott and I we called the rain showers just in time almost everytime on our Custer trip. Of course on the ride to Devil's Tower I was chided for putting on my rain gear on at the gas station we all stopped at and guess what? It poured 30 seconds after we pulled out of the station!
I felt soooo bad for all those that didn't gear up! NOT!!!!!!!!!!! http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

We only get about 5" of rain a year in Phoenix. It's rare to get caught in a rainstorm around here. The only time I get wet is when I ride to some place like Custer.

A true Proud Nomad Owner you are Ricky!
When I got hope from Custer, I stripped everything off my Nomad from taking apart the windshielf, lower fork chrome, both fenders, rack and backrest and chrome trim, saddlebags and frame, side cases, tank etc...
Washed and waxed each individual piece and reassembled using a nice anti-seize lube. Bike was spotless, even the frame shined!!

I guess I vary from it being slightly annoying, to hate it.
Slightly annoying would be riding out of traffic, in daylight, not to heavy of a rain, and knowing that it's going to stop, the sun will be out, and I'll dry back off. In that case I don't bother with rain gear. Summer afternoon thunder showers out west fall into that category a lot.
Heavy rain, cars splashing spray all over, visibility is bad for everyone including the rider, people get tunnel vision and start looking only straight through the windshield, and it puddles up... I hate that one.

I actually got stuck on the Talimena Pass in southern Oklahoma. It was the first week in August and it started out as a downpour and then turned into just a good rain. I was the only vehicle it seemed for miles and it had to be the most peaceful ride I have ever had, aside from the vision of that buck running out in front of me. Now I won't just go riding if it is raining, but I look forward to it especially in these hot Oklahoma summer days.

My bike gets washed best in the rain. When most are putting on rain gear I am taking most of my clothes off. No sence getting them wet in the rain ya know... Then I go fast.. Which tends to keep me dryer..
When the rain is over I get dressed again in dry stuff.
In NH if you don't ride in rain, you don't ride.

If you live in Florida AND ride your stuff, you will ride in the rain eventually. I don't mind at all. Since I commute on one of my bikes regularly, I get caught and just become a little more alert. Of course, I prefer to get wet going home instead of going to work....
I live in Tampa and get wet at least a few times each week on the way home. I drive my cage if its raining in the morning, but I don't mind it on the way home.
Like someone else stated - Its jut part of living in Florida.

Neither my wife or I mind riding in the rain. We don't deliberately do it but we are always prepared for it. The rainsuits and face shields stay on the bike. Recently though we were late getting back from a trip, coming home at night and hit a storm. Riding in the rain, at night, now that I'm not too fond of. Oh, and I don't much care for the clean up afterwards either.
