I started out with this 3 sided bulb in the stock housing. 50 bucks for a pair. Served me well for a year.

This is the beam pattern, Stock bucket with LED bulb

Now this is an LED Replacement to the stock bucket. Bucket removed sealed beam LED installed. 250.00 bulb, 25.00 cage, 98.00= Vaquero/voyager Adapter bracket( only one on the market) = not cheap

Same distance from my garage 25 feet. Just showing what to expect, No judgement, Just the facts on the beams patterns. I ride all the times of the day so I made an investment.

I did the same as Mike... tried a couple of different LED bulb replacements with varying degrees of success. The second one started off very well, but then suddenly started flickering late at night a very long way from home.

So then I decided a reliable solution was required, and replaced the whole headlight with a JW Speaker 8700 Evo II.

I've replaced the driving lights as well, with cheap Chinese knock-offs. It's not a problem if those fail, but I need a reliable headlight.

Greetings,
I too am with Peg and MBarr, while I did not play with LED replacement bulbs in the OEM bucket. Did try different SYLVANIA bulbs, SilverStar blah, blah.

Went with a (no longer available) SuperBright LED 7" round. Yumm! Very nice pattern and way brighter than the replacement bulb for the stock bucket...
So, watch this if you are interested in the 7" REPLACEMENT game...

The first one is better than the second. When choosing led lights you want the led as close as possible to the original filament as the reflector is made to focus the beam from that central location. When you start getting the led bulb away from the center point it changes all of the angles reflecting from the bulb. The result is a bright light with no pattern.

I put these in my Nomad (road glide fairing) and they are amazing. During the day I can see the light hitting the reflective road signs.

With Mikes pics, my question is how do they compare going down the road?
The first one lights up the whole garage door, the sealed one has such a hard cut off line.
I want to see out a distant for them little eyeballs. Country riding there's a lot of little critters.

@ smokier: good vid. shows that raw lumens is not as important as the output pattern. too bad this was primarily aimed at headlight replacement for 4-wheels, not motorcycles.

Plumber63 You are very observant. Yes it does light the garage and will show very well in a cars rearview mirror as well as the on coming drivers. I think there is a level of respect not to blind them. Also I want to see where I am going. I believe I have found the balance that makes me feel I have achieved that. YMMV

Not only respect but one doesn't want to be hit by an oncoming blinded driver.
