Voyager Tour Trunk As An Accessory
Kaw is selling the voyager tour trunk as an accessory for the 09 and 10 Nomads. Based on a quick look at the installation sheet I don't think it will fit the older Nomads. Maybe it would work on a Wompus rack. I think it is easily the best looking tour trunk out there.

They surely do look nice, but are on the smaller side as far as useable space goes. The HD style trunk has the most to offer as far as beer capacity ;)!

Thats correct saddle bags and trunk space is measured in the numbers of beer cans you can get in there.

Voyager Tour Trunk As An Accessory
Looks nice but brings a question to my mind regarding the use of trunks. Unlike the model shown, where the rear seat lifts up at the front and slides forward for removal, the seat on my '07, as most of you know, is held in place with a bolt at the rear of the seat. Do you folks that already have a trunk; do you have to remove your trunk to gain access to the rear seat bolt?

I'm very curious as to the potential fitment to the 1600 Nomad. If the cost from Ma Kaw wasn't exorbanant, say under $1K, and it was possible to easily mount with little or no modifications, I'd be willing to splurge. I'd like to have and "all factory" trunk, rather than a HD trunk on my Kaw. If however it won't fit up easily, or is priced out of this world, I'll go another route.

Follow up on price:
Part# 99994-0175 Nomad Trunk Kit, Black - Retail $1349.95 / Your cost $1147.46 + postage A little high for me, unless it is a direct fit to a 1600.

Price-wise... that is considerably more than HD is listing their various "Tour Paks". They range from $725 and up; but that price doesn't include the hardware like the Kawa's trunk is including.

Quote:
The Voyager trunk will work on a different mounting system (Wompus rack, etc) for older Nomads. I don't think the mounting system it comes with would work without major modifications on an older bike. Buy the Voyager trunk and buy a Wompus rack, then sell the mounting system to someone with a newer Nomad, and they can use it to mount (probably) any trunk they want to.

My Venture trunk unlocks and is removable from it's base supports, giving easy access to the pillion pad bolt. I have taken the pillion off even without removing the trunk with an allen wrench, otherwise I use a ratchet.

I went to my local dealer to see the 1700 nomad and did some measuring. The new Nomad has 3 holes on each side holding the rear handle grips. The older model, My 2007 for example has only 2 holes. The measurements are different as well. The 2009 and 2007 distance between the first and last hole is off by a 1/4 inch. Is it alright talking inches on a metric bike forum? My salesman said it is an accessory simply to turn a Nomad into a Voyager without the fairing.

I made this rack that works with lowered grab rails so that you can keep the grab rails, but keep the trunk lower.
![]() And here it is with a Venture trunk mounted on it. ![]() As you can see, it keeps the trunk lower because the grab rails are a lot lower compared to normal if you look at them in relation to the seat. I sold the trunk, but I'd sell the rack for what I have in it $200. |
