Dent in exhaust pipe

Jeff, it's hard to figure out what pipe you are talking about? There are no left exhaust pipes on a Nomad? Both exhausts run down the right side of the bike into the goats bladder. If you are talking about the Left side muffler you'd have to pretty much crush one of the mufflers to have an impact.

Sorry, I meant the left side muffler. It is about 10 inches back from the front of the cannister. It is indented about 1/2 inch and 3 inces long. It is a set I have from a curb and I am going to give them to a friend if I know it wont be a issue.

For grins see if it can be 'pulled'.... The steel walls are fairly thick, but just maybe it can be pulled out with a trick. maybe it will just be improved and maybe nothing will happen, but I doubt that.

Get some dry ice, and heat the pipe with a hair dryer, or better a heat gun, then with winter gloves on to protect you, slam dry ice on that dent. Work from the outside shallow to the deeper in dent as you go, and it just might pull.

If you can get some dry ice and place on it for a while and get it really cold and then park it in the sun it is possible it will pop out. Of course that depends on how deep it is.

As far as any problems, there is nothing it could do to harm anything unless the muffler were crushed.

Get some regular ice. Put it in a cooler with your favorite beer. Give the pipes, dent and all to your buddy and let him fix the dent while you enjoy a cool one.

TC, you have visions while the rest of the world is wearing bifocals. Seems like that was a line that Paul Newman delivered to Robert Redford in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

Great idea you have. I never would have thought of that.

Dent in exhaust pipe

It might sound crazy, but remove the dented muffler, block one end off completely, seal it well, fill with water, then put it in a deep freeze. The expanding ice may well push the dent out from the inside. However, I dont know if any other damage might be done internally. Someone else may be able to answer this.

Big ball of Fire? You mean that pale light that comes sometimes?

Only big ball of fire around here is when I really screw up! and something goes BOOM!
