Help My Speedo doesn't work
My speedo has a bad habit of stopping just when I need it most. The problem seems intermittent and random. I checked the connections used contact cleaner when I put them back together. I tried replacing the sensor but that has not stopped the problem. Has anybody else had this problem? Any suggestions on how to fix or where to look next.

Are your self cancelling turn signals still working? If not the problem is in the speedo unit itself and needs to be replaced, as there is no way to repair them, at least not in Canada.

The turn signals still seem to work. I haven't found any place that would offer to repair the unit here in the lower 48 either.

What I meant by working is will the signals shut off by themselves after a few seconds or just stay on until you slide the switch over.

If you have a service manual, back in the electrical section, it tells how to check what it calls "the meter", which is the speedo. A few years ago, mine started acting similar to yours (I also change my speed sensor too). I ended up having to replace my speedo. Sometimes you can find one on ebay. One from an '03-08 1600 Classic, or '05-08 1600 Nomad will work. Here's a few..........

Yes it looks like I am going to need to replace the "meter". Thanks everyone for your input.

First off, are you having ANY other electrical issues? There is a big ground junction connector under the seat. One of the first indications of failure usually manifests as a speedo problem. In my case the speedo would not work and then if I pulled in the clutch lever the gauge would move as if it was a tachometer. Easy enough check and might just save you from buying a speedometer you don't need.

I'm curious, how many on here have had speedometers fail. Is this common?

Interesting thread will like to know what the final outcome is, A short or bad Speedometer!
The only fail I have had with the Speedo is when I wear one :o ,,

To my knowledge, I'm the only one who has had to replace the speedo, could be wrong though.

I have a weird issue where my tripometer is correct according to Google maps, but my odometer reads less miles. The speedo and everything else works perfectly
