My horn died

Just want to clarify something first, I haven't gotten my Stebel yet. Santa spent too much on the cute guy and other kids in the family.

This morning I was riding to work when some asshole cuts me off. I hit the horn button and...nothing. Did it again...nothing. Got to work and tried again...nothing. It was working fine last week and I didn't hit anything. Any ideas?

Thanks

Same thing happened to me on my Utah trip, SWB. When I got home, I took the horn apart and cleaned the diaphram. It got some dirt up in it and kept it from vibrating. You might try carefully taking it apart and gently clean the diaphram. If that doesn't work, I have a horn you can have.

Get a new one? ... Kidding.... If cleaning it doesn't work like Trip mentioned, it's probably a good excuse to upgrade to something with more serious sound in it.

Christmas is for the kids. It's what it's all about.

it's probably easier to put a Stebel on than play around with horn diaphrams with those sausages you call fingers, just sayin'

If you have a voltmeter or a 12V test light, you may want to check to see if the horn is getting power before you tear it apart. I don't recall offhand if the horn is on it's own fused circuit (I'm a work and my manual is at home) but it could be a blown fuse or even a bad switch if there's no power at the horn.

I don't know what's worse, the horn not working at all, or sounding like a sick goose (what mine is doing). I'm doing my swap-out with my new Stebel tomorrow. Hopefully I won't have to use it, but if when I do I'm really looking forward to making cars jump over a couple of lanes... ;)

I had the same problem.. there is a set screw in the back of the horn that I had to adjust to get sound out of it again... Should also fix the sick goose sound...

Same thing happened to me. I found that there is a small adjusting screw that you can turn one rotation CW or CCW. That did the trick for me although, I have since then purchased and installed a Strebel self contained air horn above and infront of my radiator. It is much nicer and commands attention.

My horn died

Went ahead and ordered the stebel horn Saturday. I'm not crazy, I'm going to have it installed. That way they can also make sure the fuse is still good.

BTW doc, thanks for sharing. Next time, make it something useful.
