Heel Shifter
I have a 1999 Kaw Vulcan Classic Nomad and have recently installed a heel shifter on it. I am the second owner and assume the original owner took the shifter off for some reason. Can anyone tell me how high to adjust the heel with regard to the running board. I have plenty of clearance , etc. Right now it works fine, but I really have to lift up my heel to catch it.
Thanks in advance. Login or Register to Remove Ads |

There is no given numbers. Put it where you like it. Each spline is a fair bit of movement too. Mark the spline with a marker 2 dots and then move the shifter which ever way you want. I bet one dot off works for which ever way you want it.

It sounds like you should lower it one or two splines. I have mine low enough that it shifts without going to far below the floorboard

Heel Shifter
When I bought my '01 the heel was even with the running board and I had trouble making a solid shift, especially between 1 & 2. I moved mine up one tooth and it goes much smoother for me. I have to raise my heel to get to the shifter now but it works better. Part of it could be because I have a foot the size of a little girl, 7 1/2, which also makes boots hard to find.
Thanks for your time

I wish I had a picture handy. Mine sits barely above the floorboard when in gear. Maybe the top of the heel pad is 1/2" or so above the floorboard. I just slide my foot back and WHAMMO! I shift to the next gear.

If the shifter is stock, there is a stamped dot on the shifter and a stamped dot on the shaft where each of the shifters go. Just line up the dots and shifters are aligned in the stock position. The toe shifter goes on first or the inside position; the heel shifter follows in the outside position. The shifters can moved a spline or two for a fine tuned adjustment.

I will have to look at mine more closely NdBigFish. Thanks for mentioning about the dots.
