Well its official now, the swearing in ceremony is over and my son Robert is on his way to Parris Island, S.C for basic training. No cell phone, no texting, no MP3 player, nothin but the cloths he's wearing. I'm sure they wiil have a cure for his withdrawal symptoms

Congrats! Yeah, the Corps will keep his mind off the electronic gadgets. He'll learn all about sand fleas instead.

I went to San Diego for my recruit training 33 years ago.

It is a noble thing he is doing. You have a right to be proud. Be sure and thank your son for us. One of his proudest days will be graduation day. I still remember the feeling I had marching with all the other graduates.

July 11th marked 43 years since I enlisted in the Navy. I still don't regret my time in the Navy and then my 16 plus years in the Army.

I was in the army. My father was a Marine. They are definitely a storied group. My respect for their history and traditions just keeps growing.

Thanks all for your support. I just got my first letter today and a note from his Senior Drill Instructor, Staff Sergeant Lee. All is well so far and your are right NRiderUSA he is way to busy with other things like looking forward to a shower to miss the finer things he left behind.

If anyone wants to send him or the other recruits an encouraging letter heres the address.
