You guys kill me Anyway, I'm thinking of flying into Jackson, picking up a rental bike from Eagle Rider and touring for a couple of weeks early June 2011. Yellowstone is a pretty obvious must and I have read the "best motorcycle roads" picking out Beartooth/Red Lodge, but has anyone got more suggestions to add to the trip, nothing like hearing from people who have ridden the area, bearing in mind I need to return to Jackson at the end. Wife also wants to hold up for a couple of days to shop and stroll around in a nice/interesting town. What do you think?

I grew up in Utah and spent a lot of time in Wyoming. In my opinion, the most scenic part of Wyoming is the western portion - Jackson Hole, Yellowstone, the Tetons, etc. The farther east you go, the more it flattens out and turns into prairie. There's also beautiful country over the hill in Idaho. The Island Park area is gorgeous, then there's southern Montana, with West Yellowstone and Bozeman not too far away.

Phot,
The Beartooth is a fantastic ride and if you're hitting Yellowstone in early June the tourist traffic (motorhomes, trailers) shouldn't be too bad yet.

Have to agree with CJ. I've travelled Eastern Wyoming a couple of times on the way to Sturgis and it's certainly not as nice as the Western parts. Plus there's lots of great riding in Western Montana (Lolo Pass for example) and in Idaho (Rattlesnake Pass, Hell's Canyon area).

Will Eagle Rider's rental agreement allow you to take the bike into Canada? Some nice riding and fantastic scenery in the Canadian Rockies, Banff & Jasper.

If you time it so you will be in Cheyenne for Frontier Days that would be great to attend. Watch out for Buffalo and don't drink the water. Alkali water tastes terrible even in coffee.

since i live in sourheast wyoming now and the bozeman, montana
area prior to that i have ridden most of the good roads in those two states.first of all i would recommend going to jackson a bit latter then early june if you want to run the beartooh highway
pass which is 10,947 feet in elevation[can we say SNOW].once you cross the pass into red lodge a nice circular route back to yellostone would be to go over to livingston,mt.,then south thru
the paradise valley on hwy.89 to gardiner where you will re-enter
the park.you will be following the yellowstone river.another option would be to go over to bozeman,mt.,then south on hwy.191 to west yellowstone,mt.this ride is along the gallatin river and is a more winding road thru heavily forested mountain
country.another trip you should make is over to cody, wyoming to
see the buffalo bill museum.you really can't go wrong whatever
direction you go as it all is spectacular.you can't see it all in one trip so just pick a destination and ride.enjoy your time here.

Phot, you picked a great place to ride. The roads you mentioned are super. If you can go through north Yellowstone to Mammoth Hot Springs I suggest you do it, that is the best part IMHO. Chief Joesph highway (296) from Cody to Beartooth hwy is awesome. Also in that area (Cody, Greybull) are Wyo SRs 14, alt14, and 14/16. Great roads all. Cody is EXPENSIVE, but has some redeeming values, especially if you are into rodeos and Buffalo Bill.

Every entrance/exit out of Yellowstone has some wonderful riding, can't go wrong with any of them. If I had to choose only one it would be the north-east, for Beartooth, and Cheif Joesph hwys.

If you go south out of Jackson, try to ride the road from Jackson to Victor Idaho. I think its around 23 miles, but they are great. In Victor there is a playhouse where the locals put on an excellent melodrama. Next door to that playhouse is a store that has very good burgers, and VERY GOOD huckleberry shakes/malts....don't pass that up if you get in that area. If you are into old books go a few miles north of Victor to Driggs, lots of quaint old book stores there.

If you do go to Victor ride 31, then 26 along the Palisades Res. back to Alpine Wy. then 89 north to Jackson and have your camera at the ready :)

Hope that helps.. If you are not confused enough give a holler and I'll try to answer any more questions you have.

ps, keep your entrance reciept from Yellowstone, they are good for 7 days. (I think "7" is right, I know it is several days, but not certain of exact number)

Beartooth Pass is a must-do bucket list ride, but July or August is your best bet. It is just an unreal run from Red Lodge, up over the pass and down into east Yellowstone.... ;)!

Camp Guernsey to see the Wagon trail and the cliff with all the signatures. Went TDY to check on the National Guard there numerous times from 2000-2004

Cheyenne Frontier days are a must do also.
