Church fires...

I don't know if this is happening elsewhere, but here in East Texas, we've had six church fires in the last month. Many of them burned to the ground.

ATF has been called in to investigate and it's suspected all are arson. It's got all of the churches in the area scared. Currently, many churches are either hiring off-duty law enforcement to watch their property 24/7 or setup monitoring schedules by members.

Whoever is setting the fires is good and they know what they're doing. Probably a disgruntled fireman that was relieved from his duties or someone that's got a burr up his saddle about religion.

Same happened over here a few years ago. All of the churches were of black congregations. They finally caught the guy and he was charged with several counts of arson and hate crimes. They put him away for a long time. It took them a while to catch him though. If the guy in east Texas is smart and cautious, he could possibly get away with it for a long stretch. They'll eventually catch him though. They always slip up somewhere and leave a clue or someone will see him.

We had a guy that would set garages on fire here in town a few years ago. It took about 18 garages before he got caught.
Im sure they'll get this guy eventually.

Yep, same thing happened here in Pa about 40 mi. from me.
Last year in Coatsville Pa. they were setting porch fires and burning down homes. It took quite awhile to catch them even with fire watches and State Police help. But they eventually did catch the arsonist's. And as I recall they were young volunteer fireman. One I believe was a Chief or Assistant Chief. As you said Trip.......Its almost predictable in these arson cases. Disgruntled Fireman, or young volunteers trying to get attention or create excitement. Very scary stuff. I sure hope they catch them before anyone gets hurt or any more damage is done.

No churches here in NH, but we have the "Look at ME" firefighter types... Heros in their own minds...

Funny thing here.... almost all of the churches are white. No hate crime involved unless it's a black guy doing it.

We had the same up here a few years back with barn fires.
It lasted almost 3 years before they arrested the "arsonist/fireman". retiree from volunteer dept. for over 30 years! ::)

They should have caught on before that, he was always the first or second on scene ???

Arsonists are a really complicated, sick bunch.

From what little I know; but have read about... typically "they" like to watch their "work". In other words... it is not uncommon to find the arsonist standing around watching the fire while the fire department puts it out.

Forensic/crime specialists are quite aware of this and sometimes will film and interview as many people as possible that are standing around watching fires in the event enough evidence points to one of the bystanders.

Anyway... hopefully no one has been hurt and that the authorities will catch them sooner than later.

It takes a while to catch those guys because all the trace evidence is usually burned with the church. The best option is in those cases would be an eye witness.

Interesting thing: Even if he gets away with it now, there is One who is an eyewitness to this man's actions. No one can get away with evil forever. It will catch up to him sooner or later.

Trip gave us the answer to that....the churches are all white. No political advantage to that. Now if they were black it would be all over the news.

Back in 2003 (I think) an unemployed volunteer fireman up in the White Mountains started a forest fire so he could be a hero and help fight it. It ended up becoming the largest forest fire in AZ history and burned nearly 500,000 acres.
