Loosen the rear axle, tighten the adjusters, only do it when necessary, no special tools needed.

There is a scale on each side tension adjuster and a mark on the swingarm. Make double sure that the mark on both sides lines up with the exact same place on the scales of each adjuster.
There is a window on the belt cover that has a scale used to measure deflection. Get a deflection gauge (10 lbs) and push up on the bottom of the belt, in the center between the pulleys. Kawi specs say 5 mm deflection with the 10 lb tool, but that is just too tight. Most set 7 - 10 mm deflection. You may have to cut a leg off the tool for it to fit in there right. Just depends on how wide the tool is. You should have the back wheel off the ground, and you should rotate the tire and check the deflection at several points around the belt. Also, make the adjustments with the wheel off the ground. Manual says to check about every 4K miles, but in between I check mine at least twice a year (but only one spot and not off the ground) or whenever I'm doing some maintenance on the bike. You will also need a large socket for the axle nut and a torque wrench to torque the axle nut properly when finished. I can't get to my bike right now. Maybe someone will chime in with the socket size (32 mm?) |
