Clamp size

I need to make sure what size clamp I would need to have to mount driving lights on my crash bars. I bought a nice set of lights at Walmart for $15.47. They are chrome 2.5 inch bullet lights, 50 watt halogen. I saw them mounted on a friends bike and they really put out a lot of light. Also is there anything I should be concerned with when hooking them up??

Thanks

It appears as the smaller part of the turn-signal bar is 3/4" on a 1600.

Either put a small sheet metal screw into the bottom rim of the light or twist it off and use a dab of loctite on the rim. Otherwise the rim will vibrate loose and fall off.

I bought two sets and have needed them due to this problem. Now I have three :)

If you plan on putting them on the front crash bar, that's 1 1/2" diameter.

Bob, its actually 1 1/4".... and you're right she wanted the crash bar measurement. I misread that one .........

In this case you can run the wires through the bar and out the bottom, running the wiring under your bike. Just drill a hole in the crash bar under the clamp.

Here is where I mounted mine, no new clamps, no drilling. Wire run can be around or through the deflector (through will require drilling.) Great lights, very bright.

Did you guys rig yours to run all the time or are they on a separate switch? If on a separate switch - where did you put the switch?

Hey Ells - I like where you put the lights - good idea. Might just do that - the Kuryakyn clamps are like 20 bucks each!

I have 2 sets of driving lights, two flanking the headlight and 2 down on the front crash bars. They are controlled with a dual accessory switch:

Upper lights:

Lower lights:

With the dual accessory switch, both sets of lights are independently controlled, and are on a switched circuit so they can't be left on when the key is turned off. Each switch does not control the lights directly, they trigger relays which power the lights when actuated.

HW, I relayed them off the high beam headlight. I've heard that in some states that is a illegal but so far has not been a problem here in Colorado. It would be very easy to change them to the low beam if that becomes advisable. It might also be nice to have them manually switched on the relay circuit for another option. I used the relay because I wanted them on their own fused circuit and yet be sure they were off with the ignition switch. There may have been another way to do it but my separate fused circuit comes direct off the battery. Hope that all makes sense and helps.

BTW, I've also gone the the 100W off-road head lamp - man am I bright

Oops! I guess I flunked reading the calipers test! 1 1/4" is the diameter of the crash bars.

I need another beer!
