im having a problem i believe. here lately i have noticed that when i get on the throttle hard it seems like the engine is revving more than going. could the final drive oil cause this? it gets better as i ride but its bad whe i first start riding. what could it be?

It sounds like it may be your clutch slipping, could be time for a new spring.

....Ringadingh is probably right. When the oil is cool, more slippage and as it warms up, the clutch grabs better. Mine is doing the same! Try not to slip it to much before you get to repairs.

the PO had this issue with my bike and put a new clutch pack in it with a meanstreak spring...seems to have solved the problem.

Sounds like the clutch and not the final drive. If it were the final drive you would hear a horrible sound since that it is gear driven and if it slips it will be slipping teeth.

How many miles on the bike?

These clutches are slipping. A standard test is to get in a high gear, and romp the throttle up hard, which loads the clutch hard. if the engine races and you remain about the same speed the clutch is slipping.

This is very common on Nomads. The fix is either Judges washers, or a Meanie spring, and or both at the same time.

I believe since 06 the Nomad spring was discontinued and only Meani springs can be bought, but these too can fatiuge in heat, where engine oil reaches tempering temps over 375 degrees F, and well into 600+

its got about 17000 miles on it. it does this in every gear i havent noticed it in first gear but the rest i do. that is exactly what it is doing macmac when i romp the throttle it revs real high and not muck acceleration. should i get a service center to change the spring or is this something anybody could do i dont know much about working on bikes

Well the one thing that is for sure is the wafer/ diaphram spring is weakened.

This occurs with heat and time naturally to all spring steel under tension, and in high heat.

The fact the bike was serviced bothers me, in that if "EC" oil was used the frition plates are goobered up ... I pray not...

Whether or not you have tooling and know how I can't say.

I would get and read the factory book, and see the costs of the tools, assuming you have most of them, and compare that to the cost to have a tech do it.

The right engine side must be opened up, which means the boards need to come off, and the frame opened up to be just out of the way, as anything else in the way must come off, for the right side cover.

A 1/2 drive torque wrench and sockets are a must have, and a lift helps.

I would stop riding this bike right now! To do so means the strong possiblity of runing the plates in the clutch pack.

The spring, washer and labor are one thing, compared to those and all new plates...

yes sir...you would hear teeth grinding for sure!!

I had to have my clutch replaced last year. Had around 21k on the bike.

I also had to have it done at bike shop. Yeah, you don't need to replace all the friction plates . You will need:
1 clutch cover gasket
1 spring ( had the meanie)
1 holder
It was 1hr. labor and parts were $105.00

Just be carefull when you first ride it. The clutch will grab very quickly.
