Might have a problem

I went out on a ride yesterday short trip 60 miles there 60 back. When i got home i noticed that there was oil all over the right side of the bike all the way back to the saddlebag. followed it to somewhere in this area. I washed everything off started it up let it run a few minutes just enough to get warm, nothing noticeable so took it for a short ride bout a mile and a half. back in th garage and noticed oil around the bolts holding the cover on. Any ideas why it would start leaking. I did change the oil about 500 miles ago.
oh yea its a 01 1500. Hope it is something i can handle on my own

Do you have an o-ring on the oil filler plug?

Check where the crankcase breather tube attaches in the front. The other spot is also the least thought of, the starter. The o-ring will disintegrate and where the starter goes in it will leak fiercely.

maybe the timing chain is eating into the spark plug tube and the oil is filling the space up and leaking out?

Did you over fill it with oil?

That was my first thought too. How many miles on the odometer....and have you installed the cam chain extenders?

Get some electrical contact cleaner and spray off all of the oil on the engine when cold. Go for a ride and get it warmed up. Come home and get a flashlight and check the base gasket of the front cylinder. You might see oil "bubble" out of the gasket. Check the rear gasket too. The base gaskets are the ones right below the fins on the cylinders. Oil will "flip" forward as you ride, so it might not be where you think at first. Check the crankcase breather tube on the front of the engine, as MAS suggested too. I replaced my stock clamp with a hose clamp.
