License Backing Plate
hey you guys that have changed your license plates, what have you used for the backing plate? You must change out the cheesy plastic one first and then you can add a good dressy license plate frame. my problem is finding a descent backing plate(chromed metal)(lay down or straight),? i can find the frames everywhere. And you have to watch what the dimensions of the holes for your tags not all are the same. So backing plate, tag and frame have to all align up to work. I think my tag holes are 5 3/4 by 2 3/4. I don't want to drill if I dont have too and glue so any thoughts would be appreciated. :-)

I ordered a all chrome metal plate the says Blowndodge on top and KawaNOW on the bottom. Looks pretty good I think.

I think I have the stock bracket on my bike but Im not totally sure, however the bolt holes didn't match up with my plate. Rather than redrill the holes in the plate or bracket, I used two sided tape that body shops use to hold trim down. Its holding really tight so far after three seasons.

I wanted to lay my plate down to complete the solo look so I did what someone else on here suggested.
Took off the stock mount and used a piece of lexan for the back then put my chrome frame on that. Mounted the lexan using the same two holes as the stock mount.

When I laid my plate down, I started with a Kuryakyn chrome plate frame. For the backing, I cut a piece of sheet aluminum to match the size of the plate, then I rounded the corners so it fit inside the plate frame. To make it stand off the fender, I used a couple of thick rubber toilet tank washers. Works good for me and I like the look. The chrome frame covers the al plate edges.

I must admit that all I did was cutting off the top part with the reflector, to accomodate the LED accented bracket. Still have to make a picture - will do this weekend.
