Hard Decision

I am in the middle of a bad case of new bikeitis. Mine is a 2007 Nomad with about 14,500 miles on it. I am debating whether or not to pull the trigger, and step it up a notch, or take a cold shower, and keep what I have. Been looking online at Voyagers, Nomads, BMW, and of course, Goldwing. This may pass, and I'll just stay where I am, but the temptation is mighty strong.

Frank, I love my Nomad and I know you do also. If I were you I guess I would be riding a Goldwing again. Definitely the most comfortable bike I ever rode. And mine was way back in '83. So many inprovements since then.

Yeah, Gene, I was looking at the 2012 Goldwings on the Honda webpage. The dealers' pages that I looked at were expecting the '12's in May. You could preorder. Guess with the mess in Japan that date will be pushed back. Might could get a good deal on a '10. Those BMW's really look nice.

I say, "Do what you want to do!" Usually when I get a case of bike-itis, I end up getting a new bike because that's the only thing that cures it. That hasn't happened to me for four years now, and as much as I like the Nomad, it probably won't happen for a while yet. Good luck with your choice!

Usually when I get that feeling....I'll ride down and sit on a Stratoliner or Cross-Country.....take a long gander at the price tag (minus any goodies), then march right back out and jump on my paid for Nomad. The feeling passes quickly after that.... ;).

That's probably what will happen to me, Netnorske. A new set of tires, and a couple of other goodies might do it. I love my Nomad, but I have always wanted a Goldwing or a BMW, but Likud you, I really don't want the note.

This is a pretty bad case, especially since I am in a position to afford one. I just don't know about sticking my neck out in this economy. I really like the looks of the new 1600 that BMW is introducing this year. Depends on the deal that I can get on that or a 2010 Wing. I would seriously look at a Voyager, but I am not wild about the belt drive. We'll see. I'll probably go kick the tires, then stay where I am. Unless .... I get a " steal of a deal ".

I wasn't able to find a price, but that gives me an idea of what to expect. I was thinking also of the Victory Vision, but there are no dealers close enough to me. Don't want to have to travel over a certain distance for warranty work if needed. Also, I would be taking pot luck on the dealer.

I also saw a 2010 Nomad this weekend, and it really looked nice. I'm skeptical of the belt drive, though. I've read several comments about the downside of belt drives. Any thoughts from anyone on belt drives on the new Nomads.

I successfully deferred my new-bikeitis. I had a desire for a Voyager, but trying one out it was not everything I hoped for. The Venture was nice but it seems a bit weak to me when I demo'd one at Daytona. Adding the hard lowers, fairing and HD Ultra trunk along with the Sony 50w x 4 speakers stereo and a great paint job to my 45K miles '07 Nomad has given me the new bike I wanted without dropping a really large amount of hard to come by cash. I'll be OK for a couple more years now. I guess pipes and a Dobeck fuel module are next. Not doing anything is apparently not an option.

I know the feeling. That Truimph 1700 thunderbird stills gives me wood from time to time

But after a nice ride like last weekend it's the furthest thing from my mind. Soooo riding could be my therapy. My problem is I can easily afford to get one..... no no no....

Frank I had a belt drive on my Yamaha Roadstar and liked it just fine no drive shaft to worry about, no rear end oil to change and the new belts will last a long time. My Roadstar was a 2000 model and I had 47000 miles on it with the same belt. But now if you want to talk Goldwings I loved my 95 wing and would still have it but I couldn't touch the ground when I stopped and so I would just fall over, it had 77000 miles on it when I sold it and was ready to go another 77000

The BMW 1600GT has a base package price $20,900.00, Standard package price $23,045.00, Premium package price is $24,540.00.
The GTL has a base package price $23,200.00, Premium package price $25,845.00.
