Question for Cactusjack

Hey, Cactusjack! I'm planning on making another trip to California April 10 - April 20. Any chance of hitting one of those sand storms on I-10 during that time?

No, not too likely. We had a dry "cold front" coming through that Sunday I wrote about. It didn't bring any cold with it, just wind. Actually, the place we hit all the blowing dust was between Coolidge and Chandler on SR-87. That's Indian land and mostly desert. Although blowing dust is always a possibility in the desert.

Sounds good! Those signs posted along the I-10 always worry me. I got caught in one of those storms in a car many many years ago. I didn't like it. Thanks for the info.

Probably too late to catch you, Gene - but how do you like rain? 50% chance of rain over most of the state tomorrow.

Question for Cactusjack

Just got back from California. I rode my 2009 Triumph Bonneville. I still have my number one bike, the Nomad. I decided to take I-40 to California and make it a 3 day trip since I didn't know how the Triumph would be on a long day.

I-40 was a big mistake. Head winds all the way. Got caught in dust storms about 60 miles east of Amarillo and near Albuquerque. Woke up Saturday morning in Williams, Arizona to snow. After about 30 miles of riding in the snow (melting on the road) it changed to rain until I got to Kingman, Arizona.

A look at the weather forcasts for the return home trip convinced me to take the southern route (I-10). No problem on this route.

Whoever picked the handlebars for the Triumph must have been a masochist.

Gene, you should have given me a heads up when you came through Phoenix. Maybe we could have met for dinner or a beer. Last weekend, Saturday in particular was really ugly here. Rained most of the day in the Phoenix area, Sunday was windy and...dusty.

Question for Cactusjack

After having the "pleasure" of riding through Phoenix last November, I took highway 85 and I-8 and bypassed Phoenix this trip.

I don't blame you, that's fifty miles of sheer terror you probably didn't need anyway.

Chandler is over 250,000 people now. They say it's almost built out, although I still see a lot of open land here. It has changed a lot just in the 10 years we've been here.

You ought to see the Town of Gilbert. It's gone from about 10,000 to 200,000 in 10 years.
