Wind Noise Sena smh10

I like to use a 1/2 shell helmet but it exposes the microphone to more wind on my Sena smh 10. I believe the wind noise is actual wind hitting the microphone and voice activating the Sena. The wind noise is then transmitted to our helmet speakers. Of course the wind noise is greatly reduced on a 3/4 or full face helmet.

Anyone else use a half shell helmet with a Sena or other communication unit. Or maybe someone knows of a better noise cancelling microphone cover when using 1/2 shell helmet?

We use scala rider Q2 with half hats and both my wife and I think the audio is actually clearer than when we use the same setup with full helmets. We got the full hat sit-ups with the teamset package then later added the half hat rigs for I think something like $65 each hat. We use them for both bike to bike and front/back seat.

With the mic right out in the wind I doubt if there is a way to keep the noise down.
Cindy will not wear her full face helmet in the heat of summer no matter how much I bug her to do so
When she wears her 3/4 helmet the wind turns on the intercom.
She has to push the mic up under the face shield when not talking to keep it from being activated.
I hope she never wants to get a half shell helmet.
Not because of the noise but for safety reasons.
Just my opinion, others may vary

Bill, we are using the scala and we can mute the microphone with one touch and then reactivate with one touch. You might see if yours does this as well.

Is the mic turned the right direction? I think the triangle side goes in. With the wind sock, it shouldn't activate on it's own. There are a LOT of open face helmet riders that use the SENA.

That would work if you were both on the same bike. She could tap you to let you know to unmute the intercom.
On two separate bikes you could not call her if it was muted, correct?

Bill, we don't use the voice activation (vox) feature on ours. It's just not that much more work to tap the big round dial. No worries about wind that way.

Like Pete said. Leave the vox off.

Exactly... With vox off, you just need to push the dial in to interrupt the music and have the units switch to voice. Another tap when the conversation is over and it switches back to the music. Either party can activate and deactivate the voice.

Thanks everyone for the advice. We are going to keep the VOX off. We don't mind tapping the big round dial in exchange for some music or peace.

We are on two different bikes. I just tap the button and we are back on intercom or vice versa. Normally I just leave it open and don't experience bad wind noise. When we ride all day, I will do this to conserve battery.

OK I see, even if you are the one who mutes the intercom, your wife can unmute it. i did not know that. I will have to check and see if ours do that.

You ride a Nomad so it probably doesn't have that feature!?

What Bill and Glenn both say they have Nomads in their sig line.
They both say they have Scala intercoms which we have also.

Oh, I get it, Victory humor

I ride almost exclusively with a 1/2 helmet and my wife rides with a full face. We found out early on that the VOX on mine was a problem, that was very easily solved by simply using the tap to talk instead of the VOX. No more problems, and the units are great! I recommend them all the time.
