Trailer progress (09-13-08)

My main priority today was getting the driveshaft in my truck fixed, so that took a few hours. However, I did get the bumper on and about 2/3 of the wiring completed. Here's what the bumper looks like - it's made out of 2 pieces of 1/2" plywood laminated, cut to shape and stained with a light coat of ebony stain and sealed with 4 coats of semi-gloss spar urethane. The taillights cover the mounting bolts, so they are hidden. The bumper is 40" long x 8" high and is mounted 6" away from the frame.

Let me know what you you think, I'm not so sure I'm going to keep it. I should make some real progress tomorrow and will post accordingly.

That's a good looking bumper, and different too.

Thanks. I didn't just want to paint it. I thought ebony bike, ebony stain...it could work. I thought it looked sort of exotic.

Do you have to have a plate in AZ for a small trailer?

Yes, in fact when I took the trailer to the MVD to get it inspected and licensed they asked me what gross weight I wanted to declare. I told them 500 pounds. The guy at the counter asked me if I only wanted to declare 500 pounds. He said that under 6000 pounds, a lifetime registration is the same price. So, ofiicially the trailer GVWR is 5999 pounds. I'll never get cited for exceed the weight rating.
