Trailer wiring 2008 Nomad
Hello, I bought a trailer hitch and hope to buy a trailer soon. I need to wire the bike for the trailer.
I know it's only 4 wires,.left turn, right turn, brakes and lights, ground. I don't really want to splice into the original wires. Can anyone tell me where I can buy a "plug and go" wiring kit. Or can I buy some plugs that will plug into the original plugs? Thanks

Trailer wiring 2008 Nomad
I built my own trailer to pull with my 2007 Nomad. I looked and looked but couldn't find a plug n' play wiring set up for it. They have them for Harleys and Goldwings, but I guess they think nobody would tow a trailer with anything else.
I ended up tapping into the taillight wiring harness under the seat. If the trailer is a 4-wire system, you are going to need a 5-wire to 4-wire converter, because the bike has separate brake and turn signal circuits and the trailer doesn't. I bought a rubberized 6-wire plug and cut the wires about 12" from the female end. I spliced these wires into the previously mentioned taillight wiring harness and ran it out under the coolant jug behind the right side cover. I connected the male end to the input side of the converter, then the trailer plug connects directly to the converter.

I used a Hoppy converter which is what the majority of the people around here pull trailers used. It is hardwired but not too much trouble to splice in.

I think this is the one you need:
Hoppy 46365 short proof converter. Here's the web site: http://www.hopkinstowingsolutions.com/pr.... converter.html

http://www.hopkinstowingsolutions.co...ring_codes.pdf If the bike has 5 wires and the trailer has 4, the converter shows 5 and 4 but the instructions do not? Also how much do these things cost? Thanks

I have the 46365 short proof and if I recall it was under $30. Pretty sure anyway.

http://www.hopkinstowingsolutions.com/doc/46365.pdf There are actually six wires on the input side of the converter: CONVERTER WIRING IDENTIFICATION WHITE WIRE .................................................. .........................ATTACH TO GROUND BROWN WIRE .................................................. ........................PARK / TAIL YELLOW WIRE.............................................. .............................LEFT TURN RED WIRE .................................................. ............................BRAKE GREEN WIRE .................................................. ...........................RIGHT TURN RED WIRE (LARGE)........................................... ..........................BATTERY The output has four wires which are what most trailers use. The prices I have seen are around $97. Hopefully, you can find it for less if you shop around some.
