California

A true story

158 Years Ago in California

Do you know what happened this week back in 1850, 158 Years
Ago?

1. California became a state.
2. The state had no electricity.
3. The state had no money.
4. Almost everyone spoke Spanish..
5. There were gunfights in the streets.

So basically, it was just like California is today, except the women had
real boobs and the men didn't hold hands.
::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

I thought you would have said that it is just like today except that today they have electricity.

The southern part of that state is REALLY screwed up.

Dawg, do you realize that California still has an area of untamed wilderness larger than all of Pennsylvania? It has another area larger than Pennsylvania that is all farms, ranches, and dairys. It's got a desert as big as Pennsylvania too.

We got our wierdos all right, but a whole big part of this state really is still just like it was in 1850. No cars, no roads, no houses, no people.

The part where people actually run around having gang wars is relatively small.

Soon we will have more Spanish speaking people than all of Spain though.

::) No doubt about it California does have many different things to offer. And a totally different lifestyle than the East Coast.
I spent a few early years as a Navy man in Northern Calif. and traveled around a bit in the farm country & mountains, but for me, as the saying goes nice place to visit, but I'll take the East to live in. I like the Seasonal changes, culture ond the overall way of life in the East better.(Mid Atlantic States) ;)
If I had my druthers, I'd spend the rest of my days in the Mountains of W.V. or N.C.
Nice Country, nice people, laid back kinda lifestyle, oh did I mention good vittles.

My two older brothers (the oldest is now deceased) both lived in CA as far back as I can remember. One lived in the Bay Area, he's retired now and lives in Merced. The other lived in various places in Orange County. Every year, my folks and I would make a loop starting in Salt Lake and driving to one of my brothers homes, then up (or down) the coast to see the other. I always thought that CA was the place to be, I would have moved there in a heartbeat. Now that I'm older and as I'd like to think, wiser - I don't think that anymore, although if I had to, I think somewhere in the greater Bay Area would be nice. I like the climate.

Us Californian's envy your 115 degree weather in the summer time! 100 in the evening. Wish I could sit 4 months of the year in front of my air conditioner!! LOL! I guess everywhere has it's advantage. Looke at the folks in the extreme north. Anyplace that the climate can kill in in a matter of an hour is not a place for me!

Its just a matter of adapting, although winters are expensive. Its amazing at how much stuff we have to cope with winter here.

I'm not saying I live in the ideal climate. $400+/month electric bills from running the AC 24/7 for 4 months straight is no bargain. I lived for 39 years in a place with 4 distinct seasons, but if I never see snow again, that's fine with me. I'll eat the high summer electric bills to be able to ride year round.

What I said was I like the climate around the bay area. I lived in Orange County when I was at El Toro, there's what - 15 million people in the LA-Orange-Riverside-San Bernardino County area? I'll stay here in Phoenix, with our pitiful 4.5 million folks.

I'm not trying to diss California or LA. I've had a lot of fun there over the years. Trust me on that.

I know CJ.... just spoofing ya... I know this is a smelting pot of pot smoking idiots that run the government and love alternative life styles.

I live 4 miles from the beach, 70 miles from snow skiing, 100 miles from the desert and 3 hours hours or so from the tallest peak in the continuous 48 states. Average low in the winter is about 43. I do get to ride all season. i just have to put up with a jillion people fighting for welfare.
