chrome bag strips
I need a little help/advice. just got a new side bag to replace the one that got damaged from "cager" backing into me. the new bag doesnt have the chrome strips on the door. how hard is it, and what is the easiest way to take them off? i am considering just swapping doors, since that wasnt damaged in the accident. thanks for any advice!

As long as it will look okay, your best bet is to change the door assembly out, or buy new strips (at $40 EACH) to put on the new door.

Swapping the doors would certainly be a lot cheaper. If it was caused in an accident get the person or his insurance company to replace the strips for you.

Or do like I did after my accident. Same thing new bag no strips. I peeled them off the other bag. In my opinion it gives a cleaner look.

already settled with his insurance co. but was unaware that the new bag came w/o the strips on them. already looked them up, what a crock! over $40 a piece!!. leaning more towards swapping out doors. Blows me away what they get for a stripped down bag!!

I'd put the old door on, and sell the new one here or on ebay. |

The stripes are schlocky at best... No way to get them off for re-use, and way expensive for what they are.
Each one is different from the next as well, there being a top right/left, middle right/left and bottom right/left. If you want them new and I would, I would complain to the ins co.. Others go with none, go with none and body fill the slots they fit to paint, and or use some other strip molding for cars, stuff found in VIP, Pep Boys and Auto Zone. That comes in chrome, black and other colors.. You must carefully cut and trim this type yourself.

Check Gadgets site. He had something there about how to remove them and a "cheaper" stripe using automotive door trim. Worth a look-see.

Id tell the insurance company that you didn't know the strips were a seperate item, and tell them to cut you another cheque to cover them.

I have worked with the insurance companies in the past and they will reopen the case and make it right. Give them a call. Not all companies are unreasonable.

Utah took the stripes off his saddle bags and sold them.
Now, the stripes from the right are on my saddle bags. So, they can be removed and reused. |

These are make your own $10 fakies from Pep Boys.
I'd get the insurance money, and then make your own and use the extra $$ for something more useful. |

I used the Chrome decal material from Autozone. I started with the 3" wide roll and cut 3/8" wide strips to the necessary length. I really like the look. It's been a couple years, a few rainy rides, and a LOT of car washes. These things have stayed put extremely well.
