Brake pedal replacement

I bought an extended brake pedal. When I started reading about putting it on the service manual talks about taking off the master cylinder and the of course having to bleed the system and what not when you put it back together.
So...is this very difficult or can a guy that can read and use a wrench handle this. Or.... should I just have the shop do it when I put it in for 15K+ service.

I just installed a Drifter extended brake pedal. You don't have to take off master cylinder, bleed the system or any of that. Check Gadgets site for complete details.

Measure the distance of stock brake pedal to the floorboard.
Remove the floorboard taking off the three springs (and remember where they go), take off the rear bolt on the remaining bracket. Loosen the front bolt on the bracket which allows you to get to the bolt holding the brake arm. Remove this 14mm bolt. Pull off stock brake arm. Lube new arm and install. Loctite all the bolts. Reattach the springs.

If you are using the Drifter arm, 8027 Kury brake pad fits great. You do have to drill one hole which calls for a 3/8" flat head bolt.
You should use stainless bolt and nut....otherwise they will rust. All I could find locally was a 5/16 stainless flat head bolt (Ace Hdwe), which works fine....but buy the bolt before you drill the hole so its the correct size. I also put some double sided tape on new pad and used stainless nyloc nut.

And your good to go.

Whole job takes 15-20 minutes not counting drilling the hole.

If you need anymore help, let me know.

I just did the drifter pedal also. Not hard at all.
Make sure you order the pad also.

Brake pedal replacement

Thats seems like a good idea, I would like a little more room on the boards. My size 12's got soaked last night because the brake is in the way and I can't get my foot behind the lower fairing very well.

The Drifter arm/pad moves the brake pedal forward a little over an inch.
Doesn't seem like much but, to me, its gets the brake pad out of the way when resting my heels on the floorboard and toes on highway peg.

So just how deep do they get into your wallet for the extender and pedal cover?

The Drifter brake arm/pedal was 64.76 from Sam @ Smith Bros
(877.257.7914) with KawaNOW discount.

8027 Kuryakyn brake pad was 29.43 from Scootworks.....and if you want to do the left side; 29.43 for the 4029 Kury heel shifter cover and 18.39 for 8851 toe shifter.

Moving the pedal about an inch forward would probably be enough to make a big difference.

Thanks a ton.
I should be able to handle that. I got the pedal from Scootworks and ordered it with the pad installed. I will make it my "the weather is going to crap Sunday in the garage job".

One of the first mods I made. Made a big difference in comfort.

I bought the Drifter cover to go with the pedal.

Best and most important mod I've made. Greatly increased my comfort AND safety. Don't get my foot caught under the pedal any more.

Brake pedal replacement

I have the Drifter Pedal and Kury cover as well,, Purchased from Sam at Smith Bros,, The BEST mod for me.. Install was fairly easy even for me,,,, I took 1 bolt out of the floorboard and loosen the other,, gave me enough room,, The BIGGEST issue I had is with the Pedal cover,, lost 2 rubber pads... Gripped to Kuryakyn and they sent me a set for FREE... WHEN you install the pads SCUFF the chrome surface so the glue will bond better and addd some GOOD glue to it as well.....ALSO plan on doing the shift pegs as well... :)...Rich
