My Nomad got clipped while riding back from Maggie Valley. I went up with a couple of my friends to the rally and were on the way back. We had gotten off of the Super Slab and traveling down some secondary roads. We were riding in a staggered "Group" style and I was leading. We came up to a pickup truck that was stopped trying to make a left hand turn into a gas station. I slowed down and stopped and so did the guy on the right side of me. The bike behind me hit my bag with his Highway Peg and put this hole in it along with bending the bag brackets. The peg must have been installed wrong because it didn't fold up, instead it broke off. His first statement was "I was looking to the right side of the road and turned back and you where STOPPED" My friend on the right of me said he come flying by him. Long story short the guy that hit me was 1) Not watching the road 2) Riding with his feet on the "Highway Pegs". This accident could have been a lot worse. When he hit my bike he was going into the oncoming lane and didn't stop till he was on the side of the pickup. So for me to everyone, watch the highway and don't "Sight See" while riding your bike and please save the highway pegs for the "Highway".

That's why I'm not a big fan of group riding. There's only a couple of people I trust riding behind me, BD is one. If I do ride with "strangers," I'll always ride tail gunner.

Is his insurance going to repair your bike?
I'm not much of a group rider myself. Some people just get too comfortable and don't pay attention. I do have highway pegs but rarely use them.

I'm with you both on riding in a group....... To many things can happen and you don't know what skill levels the folks have. Both of the guys are friends and the one on my right is fine to ride with and has a great skill level. The other guy isn't that skilled and this proves it. He also has a Goldwing and it is, in my opinion, to big for him. Tried to tell him that but he won't hear it. Gene I have a claim with his insurance company and are in the process of finding a shop to fix it. I also want them to check out the drive line and swing arm. I don't have highway pegs on mine as I find the boards suit these 32" legs just fine. Dave this fellow always wants to be tail gunner and I know his Goldwing club has talked with him concerning group riding and keeping his position. He had another accident where he drove through the woods lining his driveway. I'm sure his Insurance company is going to raise his rates.

I often ride in groups but most everyone is experienced and have no history of doing stupid stuff.I follow the 2 and sometimes 3 second rule to keep a safer distance from the rider in front of me.I have to laugh when I see a rider going through a parking lot with his feet on the highway pegs and creating that "cool profile".

Thanks Tom, I think I should be able to get a bag with no problems and it was great to meet you in person. I'm sure we will get together in the near future with the Southeast Group.

Wow....sorry about your accident and glad noone hurt. Sounds like you're friend could have been in a mess if there had been other vehicles around that truck he landed up going around before stopping.
You are so right....the time to 'sight see' is when you're pulled over and off the bike. Or for that matter whatever you are driving.

Glad you're ok, I'd ask the insurance to replace the entire bag. You'll be better off that way.

I doubt you can repair that bag, Im sure they will have to replace it for you. Glad it was only minor and not something serious.
