Which windshield?

I was wondering about the comparison between the stock windshield vs. a Harley or other batwing. I know the look is subjective but what about wind coverage? Does the batwing provide a good bit more wind coverage for an average 5'9" person? I'm running stock lowers as well at this point.

You have no sig, so there's a bit of work for anyone to even figure out what bike you're asking about. Your profile says '05 Nomad?

Your stock lowers / stock shield combo doesnt' offer much wind protection at all - but there are plenty of variables available depending on what look you want to achieve.

I've found a Clearview recurve shield with home made oversize lowers keeps the wind off nicely for a reasonable price... But if I could get a nice batwing fairing down here at a reasonable cost for shipping I'd be all over it... and from that I'd expect much better wind protection without any lowers at all except those attached to the bottom of the batwing.

I don't notice any wind difference now when riding my HD Ultra Classic (batwing)with the exception of my hands. More hand protection with the bat wing. Now the lowers on the Harley are a different story. Much more protection than the Nomad. Wind buffeting with the batwing is more pronounced as well.

I may change my story in the winter time though

I had Clearview Shields with recurves on my Nomads and I put one on my H-D with a batwing fairng too. The batwing, since it is fork mounted buffets in the wind. A lot of what you do depends on what you can spend. A batwing blocks some of vision directly in front of the bike, but it is not really a big deal.

Even with a batwing fairing (Harley, Reckless, Premeux, etc) you need either fork mounted lowers or hard or soft crash bar mounted lowers or you'll get buffeting. Just the nature of the beast. I had a Harley batwing fairing with a 7 1/2" recurve windscreen, Freedom adjustable lowers (that mount to the bottom outside edges of the fairing) PLUS larger than stock fork mounted lowers. I pretty much eliminated buffetting but it took all of that to do it.
