Auxillary and Fog Lights From Walmart?

Hi everyone,

I am in the market for auxillary and fog lights for my 05 Nomad. After browsing the internet and coming to the conclusion that will will cost apprx $200 I have become disheartened...however, while browsing the aisles of Walmart, I came across "Burner" car running lights and started thinking to myself--could this be done?? $30 versus $200.....anyone any help?? Got any ideas? Thoughts?

Aloha

Funny you should ask...

These are the Optronics lights, sold by Walmart as Platinum Burners. I mounted them low on the crash bar because I have another set of lights up top by the headlights.

I think I paid about $16 for the pair of these at Wally World. They include the wiring too. Because they're so cheap, I bought two sets, and as it turns out I needed the extra.

The lens cover can vibrate and fall off these easily. I suggest using a dab of loctite (light strength) on the covers.

Valdez is correct, the chrome ring can vibrate loose. I drilled a small hole through the chrome ring and housing and used a #6x3/8 stainless steel sheet metal screw to keep it from coming loose. There are 3 small "dimples" that are supposed to hold the chrome ring in place. Just drill through one of them to install the screw.

Now that looks great. Have the light bar myself, but low down lighting is just the ticket for night rides through the country. Thanks for the tip.

Al, if I may interrupt, no they do not come with the lights. I was in a hurry to mount these at the time and paid more than I had to for my clamps. You can do better shopping around but I paid $16 for the lights and wiring and $40 for the bracket. Please don't tell anyone.

Another good question came up previously asking about the chrome. It's cheap and will eventually look bad, so buy two sets if it concerns you.

It appears on both CJ's and my bike, the wiring is directed down through the crash bar, out the bottom and dealt with from there. Good clean look and the lights are really bright (50W)

Nope, I believe he got those from Kury. If they are the ones I am thinking of the brackets actually cost more than the lights but you will still have the project done for under $100. I think the brackets in his photo are somewhere between $9 and $15.

No they don't. I just searched the motorcycle vendors looking for "3 piece clamp" and I found these on Phat Performance Parts (I think) for something like $8 apiece. Same clamp from Kury will run $20 each. Any 3 piece, "P" or hinged clamp will work just fine. It all depends how much you want to invest in your project. If I recall, the diameter of the crash bar is 1.25" (1-1/4").
