Two tone touch up paint question

Does the "base" paint need to be used when touching up a scratch? The Neutron silver "requires" a base to get the proper color match. Any input/opinions would be great. Thanks!

Two tone touch up paint question

I tried the Colorite pens for the Candy Cardinal Red. My first rock chip on the front fender. Three pens required are required and I bought all for $48. The color matched but it looked terrible. I polished it out before it was fully dry and left the small chip. It looked better than the touch up.

Kawi used different shades of silver. Look your bike up and match up the colors. Verify your colors by running the VIN at the dealer.

Two tone touch up paint question

If the scratch goes all the way to the metal the base would have to be put on the bare metal part if it is not all the way thur just the top coat should match with clear coat. AS most people have found out if it is a small scratch you are better off leaving it along. just my thoughts on it

I'll second that, I tried that with my 01' and it looked bad...real bad.

I suspect the pens do not have the small brush as regular touch up paint. Would the small brush make a difference in the "quality" of the job? I was considering going to the larger touch up bottle for the brush.

With what little painting I have done spraying is the only way to make it look right. Small area are hard to blend right unless your really good. That is why most painter wont to do a whole side or the whole gas tank.

Two tone touch up paint question

I say leave it alone, the silver of the silver and blue bike is not going to match using a touch up. The silver part is a three part process. silver base, a blue tint color mid clear coat, and a clear top coat. The mid coat also as the metallic in it. The problem is you can't get the metallic blue mid coat to disperse evenly by touching up. I tried several times but the end product just does not match. I buffed and polished it and it's is smooth but just doesn't match. Had the bike two weeks and got a rock chip. Here's a pic

I keep it covered with one of those small bullet hole stickers.

I didn't have much luck with the Colorite pens or brushes. Fortunately I covered it up with a tank bra.
