contaminated oil

Totally not bike related :-).
Bought a 5L jug of diesel 10W-30 semi-synthetic oil from Crappy Tire not quite a year ago for my tractor. Only reason I bought it there was it was the only place I could get 10W-30 diesel. Neway....
I only used 3.5L so today I changed the oil and dumped the remainder in the engine and for some reason I happened to look in the bottom of the jug and seen this sludge. It feels like basically nothing but there's quite a lot of it whatever the hell it is. I'd say the volume of a peppermint.
If you take it and swirl it around it doesn't want to mix with the remaining oil. I didn't try too hard to mix it so I could keep it and show some people.
Anyone got any ideas?......Mike

Is it magnetic? Just thinking it could actually be protecting your motor by sitting there.
I Know nothing about diesel motors, an even less about any motor really.

Nope.
I don't know if it's contamination when it manufactured, some additive that precipitates out of suspension when sitting, (which strikes me as odd) or heaven knows what. I have no idea but it'll bug me 'till I find out..................Mike

I've been using that same oil in my super duty for about 5 years now and never noticed it before, but then again I just dump in the whole jug x3 . I don't think it looks like sludge but maybe some sediment from the machines that fill the jugs. it appears to be heavier than the oil so it should drain out with the old oil when you change it. in my case I think the oil filter will catch it..... I hope.

I found the same thing in mystic jt 8 this year . after seeing it in a 5/30 bottle I went and checked several different weights of mystic and all had it . we sell and stock several other brands and only found it in mystic . I called our supplier and even took the bottles to them . their answer was have not heard of it before but we did switch to rotella in their trucks this year ! WTH ! long story short we lost 3 motors this year and after noticing grit in them on tear down was what made me look in the oil . these trucks and pick ups never ran anything except mystic . so we switched to rotella in everything now except 10/20 vehicles I went to Valvoline in them . sorry about the long answer but rung my bell seeing same thing as you did .

Damn....don't like to hear that. I was thinking the same thing, going to 15w-40 Rotella, same as the bike which will save me keeping different types of oil around. Or at least one less............Mike
