Imagine this...
1 killed in wrong-way collision on Loop 101
by John Genovese and Laurie Merrill - Aug. 26, 2012 07:32 PM The Republic | azcentral.com One person was killed Sunday when a car driving the wrong way on Loop 101 collided with two motorcycles near Cave Creek Road at about 3:40 p.m., police said. The wrong-way driver was in a car that traveled east on the westbound lanes, and one of the motorcycle riders was killed, an Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman said. "Officers were actively responding to calls of a wrong-way driver heading eastbound in the westbound traffic lanes on SR 101 for approximately one minute prior to the collision," DPS said in a statement. DPS has shut the eastbound roadway and traffic is being diverted at Cave Creek Road so that victims can receive medical attention and officers can investigate the crash, the statement said. "This is the extent of the information available at this time," DPS said at about 6 p.m.

How can you get onto 101 in the wrong direction? Seems most all entrance ramps and etc are plainly labeled.
And secondly, how can you not see traffic heading toward you, and then decide not to pull over? WTF!!! I know quite a few years ago a young girl in Central Illinois intentionally went the wrong way on a local section of interstate. It was decided (due to evidence) that she wanted to commit suicide. She ran into several cars head-on... and yes... she died, as did others. Unbelievable. I guess if you don't see the car ahead of time enough, the closing-ratio between cars could be 100 MPH+... which clearly limits any reaction time. Hopefully, the person on 101 is alive enough to be tortured later...

I heard about that this morning. It's either a crack head, blue hair or someone from England.

I've witnessed the wrong-way driving a couple times: We were on stand by a left turn light before getting on a free way entrance and this woman was coming down the entrance. I second-guessed myself for a moment and double-checked the signs, sure enough she had managed to turn back and was driving the wrong way. Another time I saw a senior driver going the wrong way on a secondary road.
Very scary stuff especially when you are riding your bike. Login or Register to Remove Ads |

That's the crack head category. That includes alcohol, barbs, bennies, meth, coke, LSD, etc. No matter the case, I bet someone going to get a colonoscopy.

My first thought was that someone was hitting the "loudmouth soup" a little early in the day. This type of incident isn't all that uncommon here, but they usually happen during the wee hours when the bars have closed and the drunks are on the road. You'd really have to either have your head up your a** or have a death wish to get on a freeway and drive against traffic.

We have had several in the last couple of years. One was on his way to the
methadone clinic for his dosage, and realised that he was supposed to be in a meeting with his probation officer. He got off the interstate made a u-turn, and entered the way he got off. Two miles later he was dead after hitting a tractor trailer head on. The others were drunk or old and made the mistake. Death resulted at each accident.
