Hit a deer last night
So as some of you may know (because several of you have helped me!! thanks, btw), I just finished a fairing install on my bike.
Well yesterday the weather cleared up enough to take her out on her maiden voyage. I was doing about 50-55 and a deer jetted out of the woods and hit me. Luckily (Very Luckily!) it was not a huge buck, but maybe a medium sized deer. The thing ran right into my cobra fatty highway bar, bounced off the bar/my leg and my bike didn't really even move. I was mortified. Once I calmed down enough to realize I was ok, I pulled over to check on the bike and the deer. A passer by was already taking care of the injured animal. I looked my bike over very carefully and only found some hair and a couple small scratches on my brand new cobra long shots. I of course was mad about the scratched brand-new pipes, but I realized I was ok and so was the bike. Several people stopped to check on me and I was very thankful for that. Two things I learned: There still are good people out there. And, I was extremely lucky!

Glad you made it through that without injury. Most people that hit a deer on a bike end up with injury and not riding for a while as they recuperate.

Good you are okay. It could have been much worse.
A friend of mine that hit a deer was off work for 3 months and his bike was totalled. |

You are very lucky for both you and the bike to come through virtually unscathed. I say if they are only small scratches, leave them as a badge of honor.
A good friend of mine and former forum member hit a deer. The bike was totalled, he was seriously injured and he quit riding. Go buy a lotto ticket or something!

A story like that normally doesn't end well. Yeah, buy a lottery ticket while your luck is hot.

Who gives a rats ass, the only good deer is a dead deer. That way they won't be running out in traffic and causing damage to people and vehicles. We have way to many here.

We have tons of deer that get hit here. A lot of it has to do with the numbers of hunters we don't have anymore. Part of that has to do with too many out of state tree / wildlife huggers coming here , buying land and posting it "NO HUNTING" Most deer and elk hang out on private land which is what these people are buying. I could tell story after story on the subject....

Yes I was as I said extremely lucky! And I agree with the "who gives a rats ass about the deer" sentiment. Waaay too many deer around here too. A friend of mine was killed in a car about 12 years ago because she hit a deer. What a waste - trading a human life for a deer's life....
Once I realized I was ok, my next thought was "is my bike ok?!" I really did not have concern #1 over the deer. Passers by told me it was badly injured. I've been riding for 15 years and had MANY close calls because of other people on the road, or surprise debris in the road when rounding a corner - But this one really makes me think. That deer could have taken me out, for good!
