Led 7 color mini tach

Hey folks, I thought I should share this deal with ya.

I spent some time looking for a Mini Tach to the Nomad and I found this Drag Specialties 7 color LED tach for $37.38 + shipping on Ron Ayers:
http://www.ronayers.com/ProductDetai...615/SKU/309924

It was $45.38 shipped and I could not find anything closer to this price specially the ones with LED background and color change as they start in the $80 range.
I believe these tachs are discontinued so probably they have a limited stock.

I just placed the order.
I had the same tach on my 2005 but with no LED color change, just a regular bulb and it worked very well.
If doesn't work, I can always return it.

I have the Barron 7 color tach. I like it, easy to see, even at night.

Baron is great! I just did not want shell out the $ for it as I already purchase chuckster lightbar, lowers, a Kuryakyn triple whammy and hand deflectors.... :)
As far as visibility I never had any problems with my previous tach as it is at arms length.

I couldn't find a picture or specs. Good price but I'd like to know more about it.

Seems like the tach that started this thread is long gone. I have a 2002 1500FI. Santa is on his way soon. In any event where specifically are the connection points for a tach on my bike? Any other under $100 options out there?

You will need a switched 12v power source to run the tach.
If the tach has a light there will probably be a separate wire for it.
It will also need to be wired to a switched 12v source.
You could use the positive side of the coil.
Some people use the tail light circuit.
And a ground wire.
A wire will also go to the negative side of the coil.
I'm not sure which side of the coil is the negative on a 1500.
On my 1600, using the left side coil, it's the outside wire.
By that I mean the wire closest to you.
I know that's not specifics, but it's a start.

Dave thanks for the response. The tachs I have seen are a pretty penny but sometimes I wish how many RPM's I was at. I have so much stuff on my handlebars with GPS speakers cup holder thermometer and throttle lock I barely have room for my hands. Seems I will have to continue guessing about those RPM's

There seems to be a tendency to under rev these engines. I have a tach (Baron) and would definitely be lugging the engine if I didn't. These engines like to be above 2,200 rpms, below that and mine lugs (as did my 1500). If I didn't have a tach and just went by the sound of the engine, I'd be lugging her all the time.

I think the benefit a tach adds to the life of an engine far outweighs the cost.

I installed the Kawa OEM tach back when I bought her new. No complaints.
