has anyone removed the lower windshield and left it off? I can't believe the bugs that get stuck between the 2 and I'm thinking of just removing the lower and seeing how it goes. such a pain to clean!! anyone else do this?

It is a pain to clean Tony. I have found that on a warm day (plastic is softer) I can shove 2 wooden golf tees between the 2 pieces of plastic and create enough "space" to put a soft thin clean rag in there to clean.

You can remove the lower shield but you'll need spacers or shorter bolts and the retaining nuts are caps and can only screw down so far...

Prior to installing my fairing, I simply removed the shorter windshield and installed spacers to take up the gap. Looked a lot cleaner and did not notice any more buffeting from the small gap.

I want to try this. When you say "spacer" are you also saying "washer"? Size? Chrome??

I cut the ends off the lower windshield and used it as a spacer. If you are careful and make a nice cut you won't even see it when the windshield is assembled. Only downside is you sacrifice the lower windshield.

Thanks Brad for the information about the warm day and using the golf tees. I will have to give that a shot and see.

Got rid of my lower shield long time ago, pain to clean and would scratch up easily, as I recall I cut down a few of the existing bolts with a hacksaw, no big deal, no buffeting for me with the single shield in the lowest position.
