Trim Pieces Came Off
Two of the small trim pieces on my saddle bag door have come off. They are just small strips of aluminum. What would be the best way to reattach them? It appears that they were glued on originally.

Thanks! I'll pick some up. Where do you usually get it?

You're kidding, right? Hardware store, craft store, big box grocery store with hardware department. Many places carry it. With contact cement you brush it on both the item to be glued and the spot on which it is going. Wait whatever amount of time is on the can or tube and then carefully align and stick the piece on.

Gonna make fun of me because I asked where to get it?!? I'd never heard of contact cement until today. Wasn't sure whether it was a specialty adhesive and thus had to be purchased somewhere specific. Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Well, we have to amuse ourselves somehow....we rib folks from time to time....
Yep, contact cement or if you feel up to the challenge, that 3M stuff that will make you cuss masterfully, the doublesided tape. Cement looks better though if done right....

Yeah, I might have been a little tired and grumpy when I read and replied. 😊 The 3M tape I have is pretty thick and wouldn't look right. Guess I'll get some contact cement and have a go at it. Shouldn't be too bad if I remove the saddle bag and lay it on its side. |

I've seen two bikes where the owners removed the factory strips and replaced them with"chrome" body molding tape. I kind of liked the look. Any large auto parts store should have it.

Interesting. I haven't had a chance to take a good look at it. I suspect it won't be that bad. |

I know some of us just remove them. They also have the thin ss ones with the good 3M tape on the back that you can cut to length, that look really well....from your better automotive stores.
OR, you use these, cut to length as needed, dress up the ends with chrome paint.... http://www.autoamenity.com/Body-Mold...e-Molding2.htm

My opinion, and we all know what that's worth , Just remove all the saddlebag trim pieces and clean up the glue. Looks much better than a bunch of cheap looking chrome strips. Yes I am talking about the OEM strips.
