Biker Rear ended and then run over

The woman driving the car was 87 years old. Why am I not surprised?

Last week an elderly woman was pulling up in front of a Walgreens when she hit the gas instead of the brake, jumped the curb and killed another older woman who worked at the store and was sitting on a bench during a break.

After a certain age, test them every year with a REAL test.

I think it would be a good idea to do an annual alertness/reflex driving test for those 70+ and still driving.

Yep, I'm 64 and I'd welcome real testing.

I wouldn't want to lose my license, but I'd sure rather have that than to stubbornly insist on driving and risk my life and mostly those of others.

I agree with all 3 of you. Driving is a privilege and not a right. Testing should be real and regular. If one can't pass the test, then they don't need to be driving any vehicle on the road, regardless of age.

I have double worries my Mother and Mother-In-Law are both mid 80's in law has a 6 mile radius restriction. And I have a granddaughter just turned 15 and has a permit. She has already caused me to give her a new nick name. Bump, she lightly tapped a pole her first time out.

In AZ, your drivers license is good until your 65th birthday. No kidding. Mine expires in 2024.

We have a disproportionate number of senior citizens here, because like FL, AZ is the place to retire. Probably once a week, there's a missing person story on the news concerning some elderly person who vanished. Usually they have dementia and usually, they give a description of their car. I don't mean to be disrespectful to my elders, but what in the hell is somebody with dementia doing behind the wheel of a car???? They can get lost on their way to the bathroom.

In PA. you have to be 16 to get a permit but I think that is to young for most. I didn't let my kids get their permits until they were seniors in hight school.
And here is the most stupid thing most schools in my area did. They did away with driver training, can you believe it! OH crap! now you got me started :(" title="" border="0"/>

Now pushing 66 and I agree with the idea of testing more often after a certain age....actually 65 is a good starting point. Here in Germany, once you have a license, it is good for life. Not the greatest idea in my opinion. I've seen old timers who could barely turn the steering wheel... scary.

When Im 65 I'll have to have a test every year, if I want to keep my truck licence. I think it should be mandatory for everyone.
