New to the Board
Hey just wanted to say what a great board . Glad I found it so soon after purchasing my 99 Nomad. Knew all about the pog gear beforehand but went ahead and bought it from a guy at work. He sold it for such a good deal I couldn't refuse only has 6500 miles on it, like new. Was riding a 03 750 shadow and all I can say is wow I went from a civic to a cadilac. She sure does cruise down the highway nice :) Well now I need a really good web site to buy lots of bling for it any suggestions out there? Also don't want to change the pog gear right now just want to ride. Sounds like a good winter job in case all doesn't go well with the jog gear install. How long does that pog gear typically last on the 99, when failures happen does Makaw stand behind it if it fails. Have read they will but dealers may be less cooperative.

Welcome aboard, cptn......make yourself at home. Beer's in the frig over there.
I've never owned a 99, so some of the other guys can help you with the POG. Trip

Gadget has some info on his site on the POG and an easier way to replace it. Welcome aboard, and do take a few minutes to check out Gadgets site before you spend a bunch of extra money to replace that POG. That guy has some really super info on Nomads in general. You'll learn a lot on this site as well and be here a long time too I am sure.

Welcome to the Nomad Nation from the Grand Canyon State! I used to ride a Suzuki C50T and tell folks moving up to the Nomad was like going from a Toyota to a Lexus.

Welcome from Colorado!
As far as the POG goes, some guys have gone 50,000 miles on them and some have had them fail at 5,000 miles. It's kind of a crap shoot. I would replace it just as soon as possible, and until then, keep one eye on your oil light and shut it down if it so much as flickers.

welcome Kirk. Had a 99 Nomad. Purchased it used and 2 months later the POG went out. Caught it in time and Maw Kaw fixed for free. However, it never was right after that. I would replace it with the Judge oil gear as soon as possible.

Welcome. My cousin has a 99, about 60,000 miles on it
and never had a problem that I know of other than the POG which was replaced at about 12,000 (give or take a couple hundred). Dealer he bought it from tried to give him a hassle about it so he took it to a different dealer expecting to pay them to do the job. They did it for free. Ride safe, Dano |
