NMR: Prayers Request.

About 6 years ago the mother-in-law had a lung transplant. The first year was tough. However until last fall she has been doing very well except for the occasional virus. Last fall, she started rejection of the lung. Doctors basically told her that there was nothing they could do. Her health has slowly deteriorated. Her lung function is basically crap (rating of 15 out of 100). She is on O2 at a rate of 6 liters with a attachment that captures the O2 between breaths to give the equivalent of 12 liters. It sounds like an air compressor in the nose.

Yesterday morning just after waking up we get a phone call and not the one you want. She thought that her body was shutting down and they were on their way to the hospital. We made a hasty exit from the house calling friends to help with the pets. On the way there (2 hr drive) we couldn't get in touch with them so we call the hospital ER and they respond that they did not have anyone admitted by that name. At that point my wife thought that she died on the way there.

As we drove into Denver, we got a call from her Dad and they were at the ER. Made it there and she did not look good. They gave her a huge dose of steroids. She was stabilized by noon and admitted.

We know that it is just a matter of time with her condition. It will happen by this summer with the rate her lung function has declined. The worst part is watching her suffer. She is a wonderful mother-in-law (couldn't have asked for a better MIL) and she will be missed by everyone.

My wife is with her right now but I had to get back home with the work I have right now. Just waiting for a call one way or the other is the worst part. On top of this is her grandmothers health is also failing at 89 years. Might be one funeral after another.

I went through similar circumstances with both of my parents eight years ago, they both passed away within six months. It can be tough on family's during this period watching your loved ones fade away. I handled it by hoping they where going to a better place rather than lose all quality of life by hanging on. My prayers are with you and your family. May God bless.

Waterman-
Awful sorry to hear the news. It's tough to watch the ones you love get old and lose their health. We'll be thinking of you.

Thats got to be tough waterman. Six years and no rejection and now?? My niece of 13 was a heart transplant recipient and after 3 years she's almost off all anti rejection meds.

My prayers are with her waterman.

Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers.

They sent her home yesterday. Basically said you have 3 to 4 weeks left to live. Don't come back here. Use another hospital.

That comment just burns my arse in unbelievable ways. Wife is there helping set up hospice or home health care. This is tough on her as she is her only child.

Hang tight God is good may not seem that way right now, but in some way something good will come from what you all are going through
