MC helmet SPEAKER laws?

I was reading the package of my new J&M helmet headset and there is a warning that some states outlaw helmet speakers. A quick internet search found that some limit speakers to one side, some only for communications (I assume that means no tunes :( ). I can't find a comprehensive list that tells me what the law is in all 50 states. Anyone have an idea where to look? I would probably ignore it anyway and motor through on my merry way but it would be nice to be informed about where our liberties are limited.

One good argument for a fairing with a radio and speakers in it. :)

Thanks Scott, I never knew that there were restrictions in some states on helmet speakers.

I see where only four states, (MD, NY, Minn, CA), indicate single earphone. Only VA, MA and RI indicate that any type of earphone device is not allowed, (RI and MA also prohibit possession of any such devices). Penn and GA allows for communications only. FL on the other hand indicates no earphones, but allows helmet speakers.

So out of 52 states, that leaves 42 with no restrictions

Lucky me!!! I get to live in a state and/or travel to states regularly that either ban or restrict headphones/earbuds for music. Lucky me, I feel so blessed my government cares about my welfare so much. I'm so happy I don't have to worry about maturity, responsibility, or self-discipline to guide my life, it's being done for me.. Woo Hoo...

Ya but up here in Mass you can drive a car all day with a cellphone pressed to your ear.
Maybe try that on my bike.
Makes little sense if you wear earplugs to drown sound on the bike and save your hearing or put on a fairing radio with a 300 watt output you are ok, but no earbuds.
Personally I would rather drive without distractions anyway. Too easy to get caught up in a new Guns and Roses song and never hear the ambulance behind you.

Apparently. We both did. But hey, congress is moving so fast these days maybe they added two more states before we knew it.

Sorry, I mis-spoke. 50 States + one district, still leaves 40 states and one district with no restrictions.
