Antenna

High folks, I recently picked up a new shark audio system for my bike and am not crazy about the FM antenna that came with the system.(a thin insulated wire that is about 3 feet long. I was wondering who has radios on there bike and if you have an antenna on yours and what kind? Any help will be appreciated.

Antenna

I have had the 100wt Shark for about 2yrs and like it a lot, even with the mickey mouse ant. I ran the ant wire up and down the wiring to the left handlebar switch box and tie wraped it. Does not look too bab and works well. I did have to add a small in-line amp (radio shack) to hear the mp3 player over 70mph. But the 250amp may not need that.
Thanks for your time

I have a radio in my fairing. I got a flexible ant wire that I have taped to the inside of my fairing. It works pretty good for me.

There are several flexible "in fairing" antennas available. Try googling motorcycle antennas, one is called " hog -tenna". Some are powered, some not. All seem to have a wide range of satisfaction depending on location. Mine isn't the powered type and so far, so good. I'll get a better idea as we cross Nevada on US50 next month. I mostly listen to my MP-3, if only to avoid commercials and all the gabbing. Not gonna go the XM route!!

Seeing there is no ground for this antenna would it be ok to just attach it to the center of any antenna?

Antenna

I had the 250watt unit. It still only applies 100watts to the front speakers. Th other 150watts is for and auxillary speaker or woofer if you choose to mount one on your bike ( somewhere ). My amp went bad after about 3 years. I had it mounted under the left side cover ( no air flow ) and it got real hot on evening. I mean I had to wear gloves to jerkk it off the bike and rather quickly I might add. when I smelled the burning electrical smell and pin pointed it I thought the bike was going to burn up. Luckly no injury to the bike. Just a couple lost finger prints before I realized I needed gloves. I ordered another unit. cant beat the price. My radio never did work worth a darn though.

I don't think there is any way to add a better antenna to a Shark radio.

I've debated getting one of the Shark radio setups for the last couple of months. Would you guys recommend it? I see a couple of you say you like them and even bought a second one.

Can't beat it for the price. FM reception is lacking, but should pull in a few strong station. Speakers are very loud, put still al ittle tough to hear at very high speeds.

What I like about them is that you can boost the signal of any mp3 player, ipod. FM would just be a bonus.

You might consider going with an XM/Sirius radio instead. Way better for long distance travel. Tons of channel choices. Very easy to mount.
