Extended front brake line suggestions?

I am replacing my handlebars and was wondering if anyone had a suggestion on the new front brake lines that I will need. I'm installing 11" Mini Ape Hangers and I'm not even sure how much longer they will need to be. I'm guessing 26" or so?

I just put Phat II risers on my bike and had to replace the front brake and the clutch line. I had 6 inches added to the originals but could of gotten away with 4 inches. The other issue you may run into is the front line goes down to the lower tripple tree and connects by way of a double banjo bolt. (At least it did on mine) The new lines were not compatable with the old banjo bolts or the lower lines. This meant that all three lines had to be changed for the front brake. Got mine from cycle brakes custom made galfer braided stainless. Brake feel is much firmer now .

Well, I just did the same thing by going with the 11" Santee Apes. I didn't actually get a longer brake line. Instead, I ran it behind the tripple tree, and it works just fine. I'll have to bleed the brakes though 'causr I had to take the brake line lose from the resivour in order to get it behind the tree.

I received a lot of help from the forum. You'll probably wat to check out Jared's web site, where he describes adding his 11" apes.

I checked out Jarred's web site! That's exactly the project that I'll be starting. Did you guys have any problems with the throttle cables or clutch line? I would like to change them out with something a little cleaner looking since they can't go inside the bars. Any suggestions/ tips/ tricks that you have? I'm not worried about the wires. It's everything else that makes me worry, because the bars are thicker OD and there isn't a whole lot of room on the end that is 1" OD.

My bars should arrive in 2 days. At least if the job is full of misery I'll have some company! LOL

Ha ha ha... Looks like I started a trend with the Santee bars.

I did a lot of research before pulling the trigger with these bars and have been very happy with them. The install, especially internally wiring the electrical, is somewhat of a pain, but worth it.

I am saving my pennies and hope to upgrade to some braided lines eventually, but that will triple the cost of the project. It's not necessary. The clutch line left alone and the brake line behind the tree will provide plenty of slack.

I went with 12" on my '01. I did use a braided fornt line and went with +6 line from Galfer. I only had the top that goes from the splitter to the res. extended.

You did start a trend! That's what you get for doing a great job! They look awesome and they should relive some of the hunch back feeling I get about an hour into a ride.
I have the quick release Bat Wing fairing and I think these bars will look good even if I decide to take it off on those 80 degree days.

rustyford, did you buy the top line only? I saw kits on-line but, $170 for a extra 3 inchs of line seems way too expensive. That's not including clutch or throtle cables.

Cycle Brakes did the custom lines for me. Three line front set with top line extended 6 inches was $135 and the clutch line was also lengthened 6 inches and cost $70 This included new banjo bolts and crush washers for all connections.

How did you disconnect the line from the splitter? Does it just pull off? Did you have to replace the splitter?

Depending on the width of your new bars, you should be able to go to 12" bars without having to extend anything. You might need to reroute a line behind the triple tree. I just put 12" bars on my bike and didn't extend anything although the clutch line needs to get rerouted behind the triple tree. I think I can do it without disconnecting anything but we'll see.
