The POG will fail at some point I have been told. It would be a good idea to get a JOG and do the switch. Cost of a JOG is about 15% of the cost to have the engine rebuilt if the POG goes out on you. I have the web site for ordering the JOG on my home computer. I'll post it later today or tomorrow for you.

Personally, I trust very little of anything a dealer says. If it has a plastic oil gear, it should be replaced.

Personally I would go with CJ on this. Had a POG go out on a 99 and it is not fun dealing with a dealer on this.

That may be, but you are 9 years older than I so I still have the chance to catch you and possibly pass you by your old age.

I agree, if its a plastic gear I'd be concerned. It will fail at some point.

Bob "The Judge" Oglesby invented the replacement gear for the POG. He's a friend and lives not too far from me.
He brought one to my shop and showed me how to replace them. So far I've done a few dozen or so for those who had bad ones. If you bring me your bike I do the labor and replace them for free. I haven't replaced one yet that was in good shape. Now... we found that one major problem with the POG was the clutch basket. The oil gear wobbles and if your clutch baskets spring retainers aren't flattened out it is one of the reasons for failure. Bring me your bike and I'll replace it for you... but you need to get the gear and a new gasket first.... <G> .
