Fuel Pump 2003 Nomad 1500 FI

New engine, new tires, new this, new that, and now I need a fuel pump. Anybody has one or can tell me a good place to buy?

You might try Bike Bandit, Ron Green in UT, and any big bike salvage yards, as any larger yard will have computer inventory over a wide area. Seek used from 01 to 04. It isn't likey one would be harmed in a crash, unless of course the bike burned.

If you were in the habit to ride after the yellow light came on, that might explain this. In case you don't know the pump is cooled with fuel.

That doesn't mean you did or you didn't, as these do not have bearings which get cooled bt anything. Bearing last so long, and no more, but there is no way to tell and no way to replace them.

You don't have to limit yourself to a 03 pump, which makes for a bit bigger search.

Cougar, try Ebay first. I just bought one for my 07 for $50.

Mac, here is a pic of the one I just bought. Everything above my thumb will be in the gas tank. Where exactly are the bearings you speak of?

The pump shown will not fit the 1500.

The bearings are in the motor. I assume you can't take the can off in your hand to access the bearings. If you could Ring would have..

I don't know of the bearings are a bronze babbit type, or a sealed roller ball type, but that is moot if you can't pry open the motor and replace them.

In my experience there should be one as the lowest part of the motor, and the can probably has a dent made into for space relief. The upper would be sealed from fuel, and at the upper limit of the motor. A shaft passing thru to run the impellor, and perhaps one more bearing to support the shaft, but that is debatable.

There is no internal diagram I am aware of and because there are no service parts... Ir at least none I am aware of.

The 1500 pump is fully inside the gas tank, and it comes out as a unit mounted on the plate it mounts too.

The change of type was first made in 2005 with the 1600.

Seeing as the 1600 fuel pump is not entirely in the tank as the 1500's are, are the 1600's still as dependant on the gas cooling them?

just answered the pm.. I was driving truck 12 hours yesterday, so gone since I don't have a way to text and drive at the same time

I think the 1600 pump cools two ways by air and by fuel, but the liquid cooling is a heat sink and will cool faster.
