99 Nomad hard starting cold weather

Hi all,

I picked up a 1999 Nomad this summer with 58,000 miles. It's been running just fine and is a fantastic bike to ride - a real mile eater.

Now that the weather is getting cooler, the bike is much harder to start. Last two times with the temperature at 50-55 degrees, I've spent 10 minutes each time get it started. Here is how it goes.

* starter turns over the engine but it just doesn't catch
* using the choke doesn't seem to make any difference on starting
* Holding the throttle full open helps sometimes but not always

Is this normal? Anything I'm doing wrong to get it started? Something going wrong on the bike?

Thanks
Chuk

Could be the battery is weak. Check for corrosion in the main fuse plug behind the coolant tank. That was causing my start problems on a 2000 carbed model.

I agree with Bobby, mine does the same when the battery has been weak, plenty of volts not enough amps

Get the battery checked to determine if it is weak. If you don't have a battery tender I would highly suggest you get one. Keep it hooked up when you aren't riding. If my bike is sitting in the carport it is hooked up to the battery tender.
