Sturgis

Just got back from Sturgis. Saw quite a few Nomads, didn't recognize and KawaNow guys. I'm sure some where there. So, who went? On a sour note, I managed to plow into a Grandma and her grand daughter! She decided to change lanes in front of me and go into a Subway / Taco Bell parking lot in Bell Fourche. Now I get to fix both the inner & outer fairing - new signal light housing & crash guard. My right side lower dented the tank slightly. Parts to replace are cheap - $175 but I'm not sure what the painter is going to charge to paint all of the parts? Oh well, didn't fall down and bike was rideable - so any crash you can walk away from is a good crash!!

Were you there on Friday during the big hail storm? I just read about it over on the Off-Nomad topic board. Good to hear your crash wasn't too bad.

Too bad about your "fairing bender", glad it wasn't more serious.

Sounds like a few mishaps happened there, a guy from Aerosmith fell off the stage while performing.

Sorry to hear about the accident. Glad you are ok though.

I posted on the not Nomad related board about the heavy hail storm they had on Friday or Saturday night.

I sent off from kansas on sunday the 2nd and came back wednesday the 5th. Missed the hail. Wasnt to impressed with anything but the scenery!! And didnt camp there so I am not talking about the girls. and missed the aerosmith fallout. So if I do it again in south dakota I think it will be with all you guys with nomads in custer! Never been to such a cluster f$%@# as sturgis. Wife and I drove up there on the bike and stayed in Chadron Nebraska. 140 miles from sturgis for 3 nites that way we could site see while there! Put on little over 1500 miles total. Sites we saw were wind cave, custer state park, hot springs, rushmore, sturgis, future of crazy horse, spearfish canyon, wind cave state park, and helicopter rides. So all in all we made a lot of fun of the trip and enjoyed being away from work and with the wife...

I got there on Sunday and left the next Saturday AM. Stayed in Hill City at the Crooked Creek Campground. It was nice and they had good food at a decent cost every day. Never went to Sturgis, spent alot of time in Custer, Hill City, Rapids City, the state park and over in WY. Missed all the hail...

Sounds like you experience the National Rally, just a couple months late is all, lol. Sounds like a great trip. I want to go back!

My wife and I also stayed in Hill City. We were there for 8 days and rode a little over a 1,000 miles in that 8 days. Only spent 1 day in Sturgis, so many people you could hardley walk. Was really disapointed that Kawaski did not have a tent out there. Honda was'nt there either. Talked to a guy at the Yamaha tent and he said Kawaski was'nt there because of budget and Honda did'nt feel Sturgis was their nitch. Thought that was odd about Honda because there were alot of Goldwings out there.

Yeah I could see that about MaKaw. They can't seem to even afford to build enough voyagers to put one in every dealer so people can see them. Seem like around here in the upper midwest if you didn't go to the IMC last winter the only way you will see one is to order it yourself.
