So I'm a bit of a wild man when it comes to wanting to do things. I love out of the ordinary and extreme. So I have an idea for those interested in joining me for an endeavour not for the faint of heart.
It is a ride to become a member of the IBA, that's the Iron Butt Association. It's for those riders who want to put on some serious distance in a specific amount of time. I'm going for the SaddleSore 1000. That's 1000 miles in 24 hours or less. You can check out the website for the forms and rules for this adventure. The website is www.ironbutt.com The ride is a three state loop starting at a gas station in Vegas up to Utah over through middle Nevada over to California and back home to Vegas, concluding at Big Dog's on Rancho and Craig. There will be several stops along the way and a possible overnight stay if the group doesn't want to push right through to the finish. I'm looking to do this in June, either 12th or 26th. For those that are interested in doing the Iron Butt Ride, I would like to know the best day to make this ride. June 12th or 26th? I can do either and would like to have the most people on this endeavor, so let me know what day is best for all that can attend. I think leaving sometime between 8a and 11a would be good. Be sure to go to www.ironbutt.com to get the form and rules for the Saddlesore 1000 ride. Click on the "rides & rules" link, then the "Saddlesore 1000" link. The form for the ride is at the bottom of the page, there is a PDF link for it. The driving times listed below are what Google maps estimates. I don't know what the actual accuracy of listed times are. There will, of course, be additional stops as needed or wanted by those on this adventure. Just remember we have to finish within 24 hours of the start time. I will be carrying an extra few gallons of gas and liters of water as a safety precaution. I know I don't want to be like one of the guys pushing a bike in "Wild Hogs." Hehehe The route I'm planning is as follows- Total distance- 1,042 mi Starting at Pilot Travel Center - E Craig Rd & Pecos 3812 East Craig Road North Las Vegas, NV 89030-7505 1. Head west on E Craig Rd - 0.1 mi 2. Slight right to merge onto I-15 N/US-93 N Continue to follow I-15 N Passing through Arizona Entering Utah - 111 mi 3. Hi Matt,
Welcome to the forum. I think several of our members have done these before. Maybe some will want to give it another go. Not my cup of tea...I like to stop and smell the roses and hate the interstates. Give me a 2 lane windy backroad to nowhere, a 4 booth small town diner, a motel with a screen door that slams behind you, and a cold pitcher of beer and I am in! Have a great time!

Oz, welcome to the board. Make sure that if you have "corners" to your route (I'm a visual person so I don't know if it does), you have to get a receipt at each corner. Also make sure you have non-riding witnesses for the ride.
Good luck and ride safe.

You probably won't find any takers for the 12th, since that is two days before our southwest region rally begins.

Hi Matt, welcome to the Forum.
The longest ride I have done is a 500 mile destination run. Plenty long enough for me. And as CJ said the SW Ralley is in June. Why not come to the Ralley and do the Iron Butt in the Fall when it's cooler?

I'm with Schoeney on this. I like to take my time and stop if I see something interesting. I have ridden enough to qualify for the IronButt but never submitted anything. I know I have done it and no need for doing it again.
